AIBU to be irritated in the garden centre?

I was in the garden centre today - yep today, August - and they were just putting the finishing touches to their Christmas centre. At least 80 per cent of it was open for business already.

Who goes shopping for Christmassy stuff in August? I only like buying stuff when A) I can hang it up and enjoy it immediately or B) it's in the half price sale.

I found myself hrumphing my way round the garden centre, and bought nothing.

AIBU?

I think they are saving on storage costs.

MOnaLisa Harrods are allowed to have their Christmas stock out early because they catch alot of tourists who want to take a special London ornament home.

And BTW when everyone is running about like headless chickens in December (or stomping about through 3' of snow to empty shops) you will look back wistfully and think
"I wish I'd bought those lovely glass baubles when I saw them, not having to fight my way to B&Q to ferret amongst the dregs"

Flies Your last sentence made me giggle, well done, have a Brew :)

LordOfTheFlies · 29/08/2011 01:01

PG I cannot take the credit for that, it's a standard MN classic.

And indeed Bogeyface asked me if I used my frequent flier airmiles as I'm a regular visitor to The Far Side of Fuck.

I'm still pondering on that one...Hmm Grin

LordOfTheFlies · 29/08/2011 01:04

And no Biscuit to go with my Brew ????

Scholes34 · 29/08/2011 08:33

On the positive side, I bought some lovely garden furniture as a present for my parents last week, because they were selling it off cheap to make way for their Christmas stock.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 29/08/2011 08:40

Was about to agree till I realised that B&Q's Christmas department in December is the most depressing place on earth. Three pink baubles and a wilted tree. Nice!

But, as I'm likely to be induced a few days before Christmas, the idea of everything Christmassy being available now is quite appealing. Must get my arse in gear.

kslatts · 29/08/2011 09:28

I don't like seeing Xmas stuff out in August. I understand that people need to spread the cost, but surely putting some away each week and then buying everything in November would work just as well. Or if not very good at saving then buy the presents early but leave the decorations, etc until nearer the time. If money was tight surely last years decorations would be used anyway, I don't know anyone who replaces decorations every year anyway.

MmeLindor. · 29/08/2011 09:42

YANBU

I posted on a Christmas thread yesterday that it was bloody August.

And those who need to spread the cost don't actually have to buy their decorations right now. They can save some money and buy in November or December.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 29/08/2011 09:50

I'm going to start my Christmas shopping in the next month I think. IABVU!

BalloonSlayer · 29/08/2011 09:51

Surely if you need to "spread the cost" you won't buy new decorations every year? Who does buy new decorations every year anyway?

< thinks fondly of the treasured old shite festering in the loft >

BalloonSlayer · 29/08/2011 09:52

whoops didn't see kslatts' post!

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 29/08/2011 09:55

I don't even have a tree any more, mine is in the cellar of the house in Antwerp.
OP, YANBU. DD, even at her advanced age of 10 gets over excited when she sees the christmas stuff.
She was uncontrollable when she was six and had even less concept of how long time is.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 30/08/2011 13:55

Flies Know it as a classic, but ever seen anyone do a personal fuck Grin I'm sure you'd get frequent flier miles, perhaps even an upgrade to business class?Wink
