To think ID cards would have been a good thing

Because then sodding royal mail and van hire companies wouldn't demand utility bills as proof of address.

I don't get paper bills aside from my council tax bill and seeing as they want one that's less than 8 weeks old it's ruled that out. I have a passport, credit card and driving licence and still they're insisting on documents at 10 year old could forge on a computer if they wished.

ID cards would be so much simpler

UK already has personal identification numbers: your NI number.

nocake · 25/08/2011 16:01

Everyone in the UK does have an identification number. It's called your NI number. Denmark doesn't have ID cards.

on the prototype they managed to hack the ID pc system in under 8 minutes - no thanks, the census information for 2011 has already been hacked, it all adds up to an ID nightmare and bringing in more with an ID card is just asking fro more and more problems for innocent public and letting criminals take the piss

What is wrong with a bank statement, most people do have a bank account and should receive a bank statement once every month, if not you can order a statement so it is less than 8 weeks old and then take it along.

tyler80 · 25/08/2011 16:09

I didn't think you got NI numbers until you reached 15/16

Denmark may not have Id cards but you get a number which let's you access all sorts of services easily, not a mish mash of different databases with stupid requirements to prove who you are to try and get very simple things done.

I have online statements only, these do not show my address and I have already changed my address with the bank so any paper statements generated now show my new address rather than the existing

Take every one's DNA at birth and issue ID cards on 16th birthday I say!!

littleducks · 25/08/2011 16:19

We set up a mail redirection online last year...just dont change your address with the bank until you have used the card to pay RM for the redirection, it was simple

a repeat perscription ticket from your old doctors.

Ask your bank for an two month old statement, they shouldn't print your new address on an old statement
