To never wear a bra again

AIBU to give up on bras forever.
Pre kids Small perky often encased in a uncomfortable, underwire greying padded bra from M&S,
now the breastfeeding bazzokas have long gone
and I am back to a not quite so perky 38A.
For the past year I've been in vests and comfy pants.
Are bras 'essential' if you are a smaller lady?
Any one else a vest wearer or am I alone in swinging free?!

Gah! 'I am Envy'

nippers joggle Grin

I hate seeing braless boobs. I hate seeing the outline, seeing them wobble and seeing nipples. Ick.

I have been thinking about this again (as I have a sad obsession with finding the perfect bra). The problem for me is that bra designers just keep designing the same bras over and over again.

Where's the innovation? Bras shouldn't have to be worn really tight in order to 'fit'. No other items of clothing do.

It would be really nice to see different fabrics and materials being used which can give comfort, fit, and a really good shape. And different designs too - personally I'd like to see wider bands but narrower straps, which would fit better under clothing necklines.

Oh and an end to those sodding hook and eye fastenings please.

Ephiny · 22/08/2011 12:45

If you're comfortable without one and don't feel the need, then fine! If you're a borderline case between needing one and not, then those vests with a bit of support, or the stretchy crop tops from Sloggi are good. I used to wear these when I was younger and skinnier.

I would question whether you're the size you think you are as well. Most online fitting guides tell me I'm a 36AA, whereas in reality I find 32C or 30D fits much better. I don't find bras uncomfortable when they fit properly, I hardly remember I'm wearing one in fact.

Ephiny · 22/08/2011 12:47

You might actually be a 38A - not saying it's impossible or that there's anything wrong with that shape if that's what you are. But just rings alarm bells as often a large back size with small cup size implies someone is using the outdated measuring method!

Go for it - surely there's no real 'need' for one if you're an A cup anyway, unless you want to perk things up of course...

I sometimes let mine roam free but not in public because I wouldn't dare. My norks are fairly enormous and I am now getting to the age where I can't be sure if people stare a bit because they like what they see or think I should put them away Grin

34B here and never wear a bra on holiday - love not having too esp when it is very hot. I do when back in the UK though, although shed it at home most nights pretty early on.

American apparel are great for bra tops

HouseOfBamboo · 22/08/2011 13:13

yellowraincoat - thanks for that American Apparel link, there's some really good options there which for some reason have escaped me on previous searches. Nice, lightweight, comfortable bras that don't look like cotton hammocks and have narrow straps, hurrah.

Ladies I can't go into town today to be measured, it will have to wait until Weds or Thursday.... sun is shining & I'm off to the beach :)
I'm itching to know if 38A is my proper size now...visions of really being a C... unlikely though I am pretty titchy.
Think Kate Moss boobs but on a 12-14 bod with big mum tum still lingering after 2 yrs :(
