We my dd's are managing at least a roll per day! we have 2 bathrooms and if i put a new roll in one in a morning by the evening it will be all gone.
we are getting through a nine pack of decent, not the cheapie stuff, every week and dh is doing his nut!
This has got me really curious about how much a household uses in a week(can you tell i've had a bit of a quiet day today?Blush)

it is the ultimate treat in dd2's eyes to be allowed posh "puppy" toilet roll

even better than sweets Hmm

buy the cheap stuff dammit

i have not carried out a detailed study (though i think i may draw up a graph and present my findings over 7 days) BUT consumption is notably down whenever dh and/or ds are away...Hmm

make of that what you will

woollyideas · 20/08/2011 15:40

I buy posh loo paper for me and DD. A four pack lasts about two to three weeks because it is very, very absorbent. You only need two sheets for your average wee and your fingers never, ever penetrate it! Some of the other posh ones are no better than the cheap ones IMO, but my posh one (Regina) is top quality!

When I have language students I revert to cheap stuff though, because they insist on using half a bloody roll every time, regardless of absorbency, and simply don't appreciate the quality. Grin

FabbyChic · 20/08/2011 15:44

There is two of us here and Im out of the house from 7.15am until 6pm and we use 7 rolls a week.

woollyideas · 20/08/2011 15:45

Springydaffs - it's my opinion that language students generally come from privileged backgrounds where the consumption of these things is not an issue!

Also, I've noticed that lots of them don't consider the environmental impact of any of their actions (eg. use of loo paper, leaving electronic things charging day and night, putting recyclables into general rubbish, etc.) and think this is down to them being young and/or uneducated in these matters. Some nationalities look at me like I'm a madwoman when I try to explain the concept of separate bins to them...

FabbyChic · 20/08/2011 15:45

Oh and I use the posh stuff cos it lasts longer I can attest to that if I used the cheap stuff I'd get thru twice as much.

woollyideas · 20/08/2011 15:46

Well, I'd be asking questions, Fabby... Is the other person home all day? Is there no other nourishment in the house?

fifitrixibellesmith · 20/08/2011 15:47

Some nationalities look at me like I'm a madwoman when I try to explain the concept of separate bins to them

i would look at you as if you were a madwoman too LOL

woollyideas · 20/08/2011 15:51

Why, Fifi? Don't you separate your recyclables? Shock

springydaffs · 20/08/2011 16:05

I've noticed woolly re foreign students that almost all of them use an excessive amount of something. here's a list

honey (a pot every 3 days)
weetabix
showers (one wanted an hour-long shower every day, morning and night Shock FFS!!!!)
nutella
TOILET PAPER (what do they do with it?? )
soap (one used a bar at the sink every day - ditto above q)

Can't think of any more - probably will later - but it's the rich ones who are the most neurotic, who have to have everything 'just so' and get very distressed if their comfort items/practises aren't in place. A lot of them also bring the kitchen sink in their luggage, even when they're here for a week. (you get that I don't actually mean the kitchen sink, yeah?)

most of them 'get' the recycling thing but all of them use electricty like air = free.

woollyideas · 20/08/2011 16:11

Yes to Nutella. I buy those jumbo-sized jars now and it's still not enough!

I did catch one language student putting a whole, brand-new loo roll in her rucksack. When I said 'Oi, where d'you think you're going with that?', she told me she had a cold. (The elegant solution to blowing your nose at someone else's expense, obviously, although at least she wasn't from one of those countries where they just snort it back up again... and again... and again...)

(Yes, sorry for the hijack OP).

mrsshears · 20/08/2011 16:18

not at all woolly and springy i'm relieved to know my dd is the only nutella junkie.
We get through that at a lightning speed too, possibly because dd has to cover any slightly visible areas of bread or god knows what might happenHmm

OP posts:
springydaffs · 20/08/2011 16:29

one (language student) insisted she HAD to have a shower before she went to bed (re 1am Hmm). When I refused to let her she covered her entire body (re pyjamas) in those little heat things that you snap to get them hot. At least 30 of them on her bedside table. honestly, totally crackers if you ask me.

however, to get back to the original theme... she was also the one who started off the toilet-roll-a-day thing. It wasn't until I had foreign students that I realised that the toilet is in the centre of the house and I think some of them use it to disguise the 'bombs away' situation. I also think the crackers one probably used it to line the seat (x3 thickness??)

I am also NOT a nutella junkie. absolutely no way

Ryma · 20/08/2011 16:35

why dont you use old newspapers?:)

littlemisssarcastic · 20/08/2011 18:42

Why on earth did she do that springydaffs? Was she cold? Confused

springydaffs · 20/08/2011 19:12

black bum Ryma Wink

I guess she was cold littlemiss. Neurotic, scared of germs very very rich and used to her own way at all times and in all things. She moved to another host who switched off the electricity at the mains when she went to bed (host went to bed that is) and rich kid said she'd had it better with me. Of course! I'm fab!

Mandy2003 · 20/08/2011 19:16

Toilet roll, oh about 1 roll per week between me and DS. We use Andrex moist paper as well though (max 2 sheets per visit).

Try to stick to the rule 6 sheets for big jobbies, 3 sheets for a wee (in my case only, but DS doesn't use any extra for his big jobbies!)

ExP thought I was insane to count the sheets like this, but to me its logic! Plus I've always had sensitive drains!!

naughtaless · 20/08/2011 19:18

Normally 4 rolls a week - 2 adults, 2 kids.
School holidays has seen this go up to 5. Which I find surprising as dd and I are loathe to use any loo but our home one. Which makes me think that ds is being to umm generous.

lubeybooby · 20/08/2011 19:20

We seem to go through about 4 or 5 rolls a week. Just me and my DD officially live here but we often have my niece staying

SecretNutellaFix · 20/08/2011 19:22

We have a bathroom and a separate WC downstairs and we get through less than a roll each room a week. That's DH and myself.

LynetteScavo · 20/08/2011 19:23

5 of us get through 4 rolls a week. It's ridiculous.

FabbyChic · 20/08/2011 19:23

I use loads to be honest as the last thing I want is shit on my hands.

My son is home all day but he only craps once a day.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/08/2011 19:34

Between 3-4 a week I reckon. That's myself, DH and a toilet roll addicted 3 year old.

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 20/08/2011 19:42

About a roll and a half a week. Me and DH. He uses it to blow his nose, too, which he does numerous times a day. Drives me insane.

I ask him to buy the nice soft stuff if he picks any up, as do I if shopping. Do not like to use sandpaper on my fanjo

aquos · 20/08/2011 19:47

I must rant about toilet roll usage at least twice a month - not that it does me any good. 2 adults and 2 children and we go through about 9 rolls of the good stuff a week. Dh is the worst culprit. He insists I buy the decent loo roll and then proceeds to use almost a roll a day.

I might start cheating and put the cheap stuff in the kids bathroom. Not much I can do about dh though.

TheGhostNotMe · 20/08/2011 21:36

1 adult and 2 boys (3 and 5 so wiping is a block the toilet job in their eyes!) and we do maybe 2, 3 at a push in our house?

we use whatever is £2 in the supermarket, whether thats andrex, cushelle, triple velvet etc.
