Five tricky questions

  1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?
  1. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?

  2. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and grey when you throw it away ?

  1. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?
  1. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 12:46

You've probably all heard this one, please don't say the answer if you have.

A man and his little boy are in a car accident. Sadly the man dies at the scene and the boy is rushed into surgery. The surgeon walks in, goes pale and says "I can't do this operation, he's my son". Explain.

YouDoTheMath · 19/08/2011 12:56

What are these sorts of puzzles called? I want a book of them!

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 13:00

Lateral thinking puzzles, and there are plenty of books - search for Paul Sloane. One of my puzzles is in one of them :o There is also a forum which I used to frequent before I found MN and cnoverted!

HopeEternal · 19/08/2011 13:02

SPB, that was one of the first of this sort of puzzle I ever heard. But I'll keep quiet as requested.

YouDoTheMath, google logic puzzles.

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 13:03

VelvetSnow · 19/08/2011 13:11

I have a theory, but unsure whether to post or not SPB?

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 13:14

Fish bowl fallen off the table - the 'bodies' are dead fish
