to think if a fire alarm goes off in a supermarket that people should leave when asked?

Was at work tonight and this happened and when I asked someone to leave the store they tutted like it was my fault that their shopping had been disrupted! Angry.

Next time I will leave them to burn! Grin

BertieBotts I went on a fire training course a couple of weeks ago and we told about that Woolworths fire. Apparently about 10 people died, some still with there knives and forks in their hands!!

We were also shown some genuine cctv footage of a shop where some kids had started a fire in a display stand to cause a distraction so they could nick some stuff, it took a while to catch so they just left, a minute later when it had started to burn a customer came in, looked straight at the fire, looked at the queue and decided that he would make his purchases before alerting anyone to the fact that there was a fire in the shop Shock

I also used to work in hospitality. Quite frankly, the stupidity of people when there's a fire alarm is mind boggling at times. I've lost count of the people who simply refused to leave the building. And then there are these special little gems:

  • The guy who finally arrived outside and started to complain that the lifts weren't working. He went back to his room and phoned reception to complain. Outrageously enough they told him he needed to leave by the stairs. He wanted the receptionist fired.
  • The idiot who came down the fire stairs with three big suitcases blocking everyone's path. He wouldn't let go of them and had to have them physically ripped out of his hands by security.
  • The even greater moron who first packed his bags for a looooong time and then did not understand why we wouldn't send a porter to take them down for him.

And - my all time favourite - the insane mum who yelled down the phone at me that I had to "switch that fucking alarm off NOW" because her daughter was sleeping and she did't want her to wake up. As opposed to seeing her nicely barbequeued, I suppose. Confused

This reminds me of quite a major fire in Chichester Sainsburys (12 / 15) years ago.
Mum had finished her shopping a little earlier and had paid by chq.
Well I guess that till was destroyed, because her chq was never cashed

She was mortified! She is such an honest person!!!!
