..to not go back to our local Tesco until DS is older?

This is really more of a grumpy rant than anything.

I hold my hands up...I allowed DS2 to go in one of the trolleys with the cosy coupe attached a few months ago. He loved it!

So, now he always wants to go in a "car-trolley" when we go to that Tesco. They used to have about 5 so we'd always get on, but now they only have 1 and we rarely get it. He's nearly 2.5 BTW.

My DS is a full on tantrum style toddlers - throwing himself on floor etc etc.

I've had one too many visits where we don't get one and he moans and cries the whole way round, often re-ignited by seeing the sodding trolley in the shop, despite me trying not let him see it.

So, we're not going to go until he's old enough to understand.

It's a massive new store. Why can't they have more of these trolleys or why can't they keep them in the store and ask for a deposit? This would stop the local kids destroying them.

We shall go to Sainbury's instead and Tesco can stick their incentives!

Oh I see! It's like a kids car with a trolley attached! We don't have them at our Tescos.

I not convinced he understands and yep, too right I'm going to avoid it. As someone said up thread, "pick your battles". There are more than plenty of opportunities to teach him about disappointment, patience, waiting your turn, every single day.

It actually wouldn't be so bad if there were NONE (we have no such problem in Sainsburys) because I could deal with the drama and move on, but it's seeing the darn thing around the store which sparks it all off again.

Is it just me that thinks Tesco is a supermarket not a playground and that those 'play' trolleys are the invention of the devil?

mouthwash7 · 21/08/2011 08:57

Just order online until he's a bit older. We avoided supermarkets for a while as it was just a nightmare. Went back to them at about age 4 - when had calmed down considerably.

tallulah · 21/08/2011 09:03

I can't bear those trolleys. they are far too big and people have no control over them. I have been mown down by them on a number of occasions and can't see the point of them. Supermarkets are for buying shopping, not playing. Our Sainsburys had them for a while but luckily got rid of them.

Erm couple trolley? Is that 2 seated trolley? Why not use a single seated trolley you only have one ds someone who may need 2 seats in the trolley but can't because your using it.

Plus he's 2.5 not a baby.

tryingtoleave · 21/08/2011 11:23

? A 2.5 year old is way more difficult to go shopping with than a baby. I've only seen one of those trolleys once, when we were holidaying in nz, and my 2 and 5 year old were both delighted to ride in it. Best shopping trip ever!

In answer to the question I would avoid for a while. My ds became much more rational at around three. You can't make it happen before it happens, iykwim.
