to not see the need for a kids menu?

Just been told yet again the 'kids menu' at a wedding we're going to in a few weeks will be nuggets and chips Confused. I just don't get it, that will be the 3rd wedding this year where DD is served a plate of fried crap that she won't eat while the parents get a roast dinner. Last time she just scoffed all my roast potatoes! What's wrong with just a kids portion of the normal meal, it's hardly going to be more expensive.

Same goes with pubs etc- why do they assume kids only eat crap?

I am by no means a food purist with the DC, they get plenty of crap treats, even, god forbid, the odd fruit shoot. But I just don't see why they can't eat the same as us, they do at home!

I'm not anti deep fried kiddie meals occasionally for DD and we have been known to feed her McChicken nuggets in an emergency Blush (from the back of the car so we weren't tutted at by other parents!). However we like DD to eat smaller adult meals so she gets used to a variety of food and can practise using her cutlery.

We also like Pizza Express and their children's meals are great. Plus, it means DD eats hers and we get to eat our meal rather than sharing it with her!!

YANBU have been to sooo many weddings where we get lovely roast with veg and nice meat while the kids get nuggets and chips (which they like but still look longily at my broccolil lol!) - they would eat the roast - why not just do a smaller portion?

mummytotwoboys · 18/08/2011 01:56

agree about pubs too - why not have the same menu just with adult / kids prices?

Actually the time that made me really cross was when my Mum and I took dd to a local cafe. The childrens menu was total rubbish and didn't even have a veggie option. They wouldnt do a half portion so i thought i'd order from the starters menu. They had one which was homemade pesto, hummus and another dip with pitta and veggies which she'd love. They told me I couldnt let her eat it as the pesto was too strong and we'd have to order off the childrens menu but they actually wouldn't allow me to order it for dd.

Grr! We left and haven't been back.

I think I would be a bit irked if I went to a wedding with my DC and they were offered chips and nuggets!

Why should the kids get crap when the adults get a lovely meal.

Do people actually serve nuggets etc to kids at weddings?

The ones I have been to are all just smaller portions of the adults menu.

whilst school shoe shopping the other day with my girls, I offered a trip to burger king as a treat. DD2 (7) refused saying she wanted a sunday dinner. so we went to a pub and she chose a roast beef dinner.

I hate there only being one kids choice (nuggets and chips) at a wedding for the kids. Most kids would choose a dinner IMO

Haha, it's me that creates the demand for children's menus full of things like nuggets and chips.

One of my DC (just the one, the other will eat anything) is incredibly suspicious of unfamiliar food - she eats fine at home, but if we're out I don't want to have to persuade her that actually what's on the menu is just like x y or z but cooked a bit differently and described differently. I don't mind her examining everything on her plate with a look of disturbed distaste while she asks what every single ingredient is - but I don't want to have to do it when I'm out.

So I'm quite happy for her to get a childrens menu full of stuff that while it is completely naff, she knows what it is and is quite happy to order. I can widen the foods she eats at home and that gradually changes what she will eat when out as she gets older.

The other one, he usually just orders from the adult menu.

YABU

restaurants like ASK, and Wagamama has very competiively priced healthy kids menus. I would rather pay £6 and they get a 3 course meal than £8 for a larege porton they will not finish
