to think troll hunters are sometimes just as bad as the trolls themselves?

I always think of trolls as saddo people, emotional leeches if you like. There are some very clever ones about, and inevitably people get taken in, and give (often sterling) advice and support.

Then along comes a poster on the thread, crying 'Troll, troll', instead of simply reporting. The danger of this is accusing genuine posters of trolling. I've noticed this before, but not really paid much attention beyond giving trollhunter a mental catsbumface. However, a RL friend is currently feeling very upset and vulnerable following being called a troll herself (CRS, regarding giving personal info about herself on a recently notorious thread), and as she has given much of herself in other threads, is taking basically being called a liar hard, as she has been so supported here, and in turn has supported others. Those others may now, in turn, feel taken in.

AIBU to believe trollhunters appear to be more keen on being able to say 'I told you so' than the feelings of possibly innocent people they are accusing?

yes it is, PK.

Tanith · 17/08/2011 14:36

Report it, then! No different at all so far as I'm concerned.

PinotsKittens · 17/08/2011 14:37

Thing is, to get the most out of MN you have to invest a certain amount of time and effort - and when waves like this occur, it's human nature to find them a little bit exciting and a little bit interesting. I don't think that's abnormal. Hence if you miss a thread where something wooo happens, you're naturally going to have a catch-up thread the next day until the wooo has filtered through the site.

PinotsKittens · 17/08/2011 14:39

Not on me, DrP?!

PinotsKittens · 17/08/2011 14:39

wooo = technical term, obvs.

DrPolidori · 17/08/2011 14:41

never on you, PrincessKitten, never on you!

DrPolidori · 17/08/2011 14:43

and thanks, Tanith, for apologising for calling me a shirt stirrer when you misread my post. very gracious of you.

MmeLindor. · 17/08/2011 14:43

This is why I am no good at troll hunting.

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/08/2011 14:46

Nah don't give up DrP.
Tis the way of mumsnet, nobody will ever agree.
And people will contiue to question threads and will still be flamed for it.
After all, Trolls have human rights, us so called troll hunters (I prefer doubters myself) will continue to be the baddies.
I can live with that, but I was never one for rules Grin

Tanith · 17/08/2011 14:50

Trolls and troll hunters are one and the same so far as I'm concerned. If you've read any of my other threads, you'll know that I think troll hunters cause more trouble than trolls.

Why do you think you deserve an apology? You are stirring.

DrPolidori · 17/08/2011 14:52

no, I am merely using available data to point out inconsistencies in people's reactions to "troll hunting".

Not a sign of the "how very dare you, you sick bitch" that I got the other night.

Manners maketh the woman.

DrPolidori · 17/08/2011 14:56

And if you are feeling rather het up, why not stroke one of Pinot's Kittens? I am sure she wouldn't mind. In the interests of peace and harmony an' all.

PinotsKittens · 17/08/2011 14:58

Tanith you appear vair strict. Ergo, I bet you have a firm stroking action. Be gently avec my kittens else I'll punch you cry.

PinotsKittens · 17/08/2011 15:12

She's busy blowing up balloons for disadvantaged children in an inner-city wracked by an influx of cholera. Same as I am

DrPolidori · 17/08/2011 15:15
