to be freaked by a checkout operator

AIBU to be freaked out that a checkout operator managed to find out from me whilst putting through a small amount of shopping, my age, my daughter's age, whether or not I would have any more children, if I'm married or not, how long I've been with my partner, how many brothers and sisters I have, where I used to work, and what I do now.

Was she just being friendly asking so much or was that just wierd?

I avoid one particular operator in our local supermarket as she's a bit odd in her manner. Most of the other operators are fine - chatty but not intrusive.

This operator wouldn't actually hit the total button (or whatever it is they do so I can stick my card in) so I could pay and leave until DS had smiled at her - she just sat there talking to him saying "am I going to get a smile then?" Hmm
He was 6mo, just teething, very tired and he's wary of strangers. What do you think the odds of him smiling were?!

I finally, after a couple of minutes of polite hints like "oh he's tired, he wants to get out of here and go home", had to say "OYE! Can I pay and leave please?!" as DS burst into tears! Angry

Now we avoid her, and judging by the way others queue (5 deep elsewhere, 1 or 2 at her till), we are not alone in this! Grin
