To think it's sad that society hasn't really moved on since the Victorian ages when disabled people were considered a form of entertainment, and people queued up to gawp...

OP posts:
pigletmania · 16/08/2011 22:08

iggy if they are not happy why did they chose to be in the pantomime.

worraliberty · 16/08/2011 22:11

But that makes even less sense?

You were annoyed when you thought the programme was a form of 'comedy entertainment' to 'gawp at disabled people'

And then you thought you'd tune in and watch it based on that? Confused

hocuspontas · 16/08/2011 22:12

I wonder why they spelt it 'dwarves' and not 'dwarfs'? I thought 'dwarfs' was more usual.

LadyThumb · 16/08/2011 22:14

I agree with omni - there definitely IS something about Max......!

The program just reiterated that they are ordinary people like you and me. In fact, they were having a lot more fun than me!

lenak · 16/08/2011 22:15

Iggy - brilliant Grin

  • Disclaimer - didn't get it till GreenEyedMumster commented

worraliberty · 16/08/2011 22:18

Haha! Missed Iggy's post Grin

festi · 16/08/2011 22:35

I think its branding in terms of thier company name.

dwarves has a fantacy non fiction description I belive rather dwarf being the clinical desciption...not sure Iv worded that terribly well, couldnt think of a better word to clinical.

GreenEyedMumster · 16/08/2011 22:35

lenak - it warranted my first ever MN post. I've been lurking a few weeks and couldn't let it pass.

Tickled.

festi · 16/08/2011 22:36

not non fiction. so many things wrong with that post but I think I know what im saying Grin

omnishambles · 16/08/2011 22:36

If you were going to be pedantic at least 2 of them weren't in fact dwarfs.

Salmotrutta · 16/08/2011 23:19

I haven't seen the programme but I do have some personal knowledge about achondroplastic dwarfism. Don't want to say any more than that on a personal note.
But I will say that it's not for anyone else to be outraged on the behalf of people with this condition, who decide, for themselves, to perform in a play/panto/circus or whatever. If they make that decision that's up to them. They are physically disabled - they do not have cognitive impairment.

Fishsticks · 16/08/2011 23:25

NC for this, but I am aware of some scandalous gossip regarding one of the cast of this show (but not while I work)......Wink

fluffygal · 16/08/2011 23:46

I have to agree with Omni and Lady , when Max came on I was 'oh hello!' and pointed out to OH how attractive I thought he was!

And it was funny as fuck when they were drunk and were telling their own version on Snow White, we were laughing so much!

GothAnneGeddes · 17/08/2011 00:57

Just to stick of for the OP, considering the 'Ooh let's point at the really fat!' Channel 4 regularly indulge in via various programmes, I wasn't sure who tasteful this programme was going to be. I'm glad to hear that is is good, and not as I feared.

NC - cough it up!

organicgardener · 17/08/2011 01:10

Has anyone got any ideas on who the target audience was?

kittensliveupstairs · 17/08/2011 07:05

organic, IMO, the target audience was my 10.3 DD. She was rapt with it. I thought it was dull.
And Max is just no, I wouldn't. The man with the hat though, he's a different matter (possibly Craig).
I doubt we'll be watching it again.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 17/08/2011 09:09

Max was quite attractive, I thought.

Fishsticks · 17/08/2011 11:44

I will wait for the episode in question to be aired before i spill the gossip Wink
