Labour -
Introduced university fees
Encouraged reliance on benefits
Didn't put in measures to prevent the wealthy making multiple housing purchasers, allowing them to make buckets of money without appropriate tax thus inflating the housing market so average Joe couldn't buy a house without stupidly high mortgages
Did nothing to prevent the banking crisis
Went to war because of a crazed dictator (Bush - not Hussain) costing us millions even though there was no intelligence to support said war
Abolished embarkation controls so that the Country could no longer measure when people left rendering time based visa's useless and allowing freedom of movement for fugitives
Eroded public services including the Police

AIBU to want to allow the new government, which will never be perfect, no government is, some time to make the changes, I don't agree that 1 year is enough time to put right the damage done in the previous 13 years.

Before anyone starts sneering, I do not read the Daily Mail - my parents do and I regularly give them my opinion on why they shouldn't - this is just how I see it from my experience of becoming an adult as Labour came into power.

I am happy to be told that I am wrong and be given the reasons why.

YANBU. Labour actively encouraged voters by throwing benefits at them - be the HIP, CTF or allowing people the choice to not work. They also set nothing aside in the boom years and continued to borrow. Not to mention ID cards and Iraq.

I dont like the cons cutting CB for higher earners (wont affect me so no personal gripe) as why should those who actually work to support their children miss out when others get everything paid for but other than that the changes have been for the good. IS for single parents will cease once children are school age in Oct 2011 - still 3 or so more years than maternity leave but a great start. Getting stricter on JSA, capping HB so that those who dont work dont get to live in expensive areas or houses. We have very little work ethic as a country thanks to labour and the welfare state is no longer that but seen as a right to a lifestyle of your choosing at others expense.

We've been sheltered from the worst of the crisis and i'm very thankful we've not been affected like other countries.

Happymummy - I work. The new cap in HB has meant I have come very close to having to STOP work, because combined with the cut in childcare subsidy, I now pay out significantly more than I earn each week.

Most people on HB work. Because the minimum wage is categorically not a living wage.
