To have DD's sleep on mattresses on the floor for awhile?

I want to get them bunkbeds, at, they are on old wooden beds.

I am doing a car boot this weekend, and as I want rid of the beds I was planning on dismantling them and trying to sell the, even for a couple of quid, as otherwise they are going to the wood scrap pile. HOWEVER, we do not have themoney for new bunkbeds unless I make serious profit at the car boot, so this means they will be on mattresses on the floor for at least a few weeks, possibly until half term and I have time to sort the new beds. So thats about 2 months max.

That's not too scally is it? My mum is horrified that I am even considering this which has made me question myself now!

They are 3 (4 in 7 weeks) and 5.7

Just go ahead - no worries. Why not?!
Commons sense and fun for kids and safe...

They will be fine :)
My daughter was 8 months when I did that because she refused to sleep in the cot ( vomiting, the lot). She would only sleep in beds but i couldn't afford one at the time.
If the feel safe and happy then why not?

Of course they will be fine, and they will love it! I have a friend whose three children sleep on matresses on the floor as there's not enough room for three beds in the room they share. They stack them up during the day to give them more play space. If your mum is so horrified, why doesn't she chip in towards the cost of the bunkbeds .....

I sleep on the floor because I don't have room for a bed. It's fine.

Why not simply wait until you can afford to buy them new beds? You can always freecycle them, or kijiji them after you know the date the new beds will be delivered.

Rather than car boot sale I would DEFINITLEY go down the Gumtree/ preloved/ loot (or even ebay route). The first three do not take any charges out of the sale if you just do a basic ad If you put a picture up it helps prevent wasted journeys as people can see what you are selling.

Also at the boot sale you will struggle to get stuff into the car with the beds as well (if you have a huge van you normally pay extra for the pitch) and even if you have enough space may will be put off as they can not transport something so big home

As for mattress on the floor not a biggy, they will get excited about their new beds, Have a look on the above sites as they also quite often have bunkbeds for sale too...

My DD is sleeping on a mattress on the floor as we speak. I have ordered her bed, but due to a delay with the manufacturers it won't arrive for another month yet.

We simply pick up the mattress each morning, and put it away and then get it out each evening. Its not a problem and has not disturbed DDs sleep at all. She sleeps soundly and seems to think it is a bit like camping. She is almost 5.

Me and DH camped on a mattress in the living room when our new bed was coming and it was great fun! As a child I loved having friends to stay and getting to sleep on the flop out chair bed on the floor (I used to insist they had the bed!!)

Your kids will love it. Its possibly even healthier for them as the floor will be firm and stable under their backs (if that makes you feel even better).

I still like sleeping on a mattress on the floor - did it when DH was coughing all night. Woke up in the morning with that feeling of being watched. Our Lab was sitting staring at me Grin

Let them do it.
