....wee standing up !

We introduce the potty when our children are babies and give them nappy off time when we can be bothered have the time.

This resulted in DD1 being dry/clean at 12 months old and yet DS being only dry in clothes at 2.11yo and still not reliable with poo in clothes at 3yo. (He has been using a potty for wee since he was 18 months and would ask for a nappy when he wanted a poo)

Just goes to show that personality makes a big difference to age of being dry/clean.

DD2 just 1yo has only been climbing on the potty herself for the last few weeks with the odd wee caught.

Today DD2 is insisting on standing over the potty and weeing whilst standing. Every time I try and encourage her to sit down, she just laughs and shouts her brother's name. Guess she is telling me, if HE can do it, so can she :)

Wow, some judgemental posts on this thread, most of them totally missing the point!

Everybody has different views on EC or how/when to potty train, and those views have also evolved significantly with the development of washing machines, dryers and disposable nappies. And to be honest, unless they're pooing in your shoe, who really cares how somebody else decides to deal with their childs bodily fluids?

The point of the original story wasn't to be smug or to advocate a particular method of EC or potty training. It was "Hey, DD2 tried to pee standing up like her brother--isn't that cute?"

And yes, it is.

EC is also known as infant hygiene. It is a way of keeping a baby clean and not potty training in the conventional sense. Leaving a baby to sit in sewage for hours on end causes nappy rash. With dd I put her on the potty on waking and changing her nappy. She is not toilet trained, and I don't expect her to

A baby raised on EC will be able to use the toilet independently between two and three years old. Children do have muscle control from a very early age, but lack the ablity to antisipate the need to go.

Agree that some of you are a bit uptight and oversensitive. Unclench! Babieseverywhere, your OP was funny and cute. I agree with the shewee suggestion Wink

I dont know anyone who left their child in sewage Hmm for 'hours on end'

As will those who aren't raised on it. Both my dds could use the toilet by 2.
