Am I thinking this through too much?

We're going away tomorrow on a 3 hour drive. I have a zafira and 3 kids and will need 1 seat down in the boot. So how do you normally decide which child has the back seat? Obviously the back seat will take the brunt of a rear collision (touch wood) but i dont want to think of putting either of my girls at a higher risk than the others. The middle seats only have a lapbelt in the middle so thats a no go, and Dp cannot fit between the 2 middle seats (and is quite tall so couldnt really sit in the boot. Am i thinking about this too much? Would you put the oldest in (in my case 7 year old)?

ballstoit i have a little stroller that goes behind the back 2 seats (lengthways) so in my mind that would lessen the impact a bit (please dont correct me on that if im wrong :P) glad its not only me...though haven't thought about what to do if theres a Zombie attack while driving down the motorway and one jumps on the roof...which window would it smash 1st? Shock

hmmm, zombie attack, I've just looked this up on the internet, apparently you need a chainsaw bayonet

From the looks of it you could also put this down behind the back seat to provide further protection pushchair style, or maybe even down the sides of the seat to provide additional side impact from foreign lorry protection.

Futhermore have you check whether you car/travel insurance would cover you for the damage from the zombie/chainsaw bayonet

I had been told (by mothercare I think) that the front passenger seat was far more dangerous than the boot as most crashes would be head on.

I'm prepared to be corrected.

I think I would put the oldest in the back as they are the sturdiest.

Have a safe journey.

lunarRose I have Zombie Insurance...I thought everyone did Shock Wink

What makes it a bit more difficult to decide is the youngest has the sturdiest carseat, middle has a high back booster and oldest just a booster seat (so no side support) Dd1 will probably end up in the back then she can watch the dvd player in peace.

Unlike when I was a child and rolled around loose when carried in the boot section of estate cars(!), I think that it would now be highly unlikely that cars like the Zafira would pass all the stringent tests if the rear rear passengers were any less safe than those in the row in front.

This was the car I spent most time in the boot of - look at the magnificent side & rear impact protection!

Sorry, THIS!

Hmm. Could you not leave DH at home? Failing that ask DC which one wants to go at the back.

The way I see(going on previous posts) it they have 4 choices Wink
Rear seat - rear impact
Left seat - foreign lorry driver
Right seat - zombie attack
Front passenger - suicide seat.

[Hmm]

You need to rotate them at regular intervals.

'tis the only fair way.
