To drink more than one damn glass of wine whilst BFing? Perhaps several?

Have had a bit of a shitter to be fair. All the normal trials and tribulations of being a new mum, PND, mastitis yada yada. Am going out tonight with DH for a meal. DS is four months old and EBF. I do have a glass of wine on a night but never more than that and tonight just really fancy, ooh, say 3 glasses. Is that too much to ask? Please God all say I should. I'm a woman on the edge. P.s. DS will not take a bottle and so there is a distinct possibility I will be BFing whilst tipsy/drunk.

A word of warning: I guarantee you that your baby will somehow twig that you've had a few and so will lull you into a false sense of security when you return from your shindig, but the second your head hits the pillow, will wake up once an hour for 30 mins for the rest of the night until you're saying "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll never drink again" Grin

I'm home! Thanks for all your lovely responses. I particularly like the Gripe Water ones :) in the end I had two large glasses, felt tipsy for ten minutes, enjoyed the meal and now we are all tucked up in bed. I think just knowing I could have more if I wanted to was nice. Here's to wine!

Glad you had a good night!! I'm still b/feeding DD who's just turned one and wouldn't have managed that long with her (nor 13 months feeding DS) without being able to enjoy a Wine or 3 of an evening. Not every evening you understand! But when I felt like it.

Wait. Verylittlecarrot, your orange juice has alcohol in it? What?

Bubbaluv · 11/08/2011 04:19

Alchol in OJ

My NCT teacher told us this too. She said that so long as you could legally drive then your baby will be fine.

I wish MN had a thing like Facebook where you can "like" a post - I seriously nearly pissed myself laughing at "your milk is as drunk as you feel" :o :o :o

Disclaimer: I completely agree with the sense behind the statement, was just absolutely ROFLing at drunken breastmilk :o

Glad you had a great time OP :)

BertieBotts · 11/08/2011 07:49

Ah that explains why if you leave fruit juice in a cup or bottle and forget about it, it goes all fizzy and ferments.

foreverondiet · 11/08/2011 07:53

Its fine, no problem drinking whilst breastfeeding, unless you get so drunk you can't look after the baby. And don't co-sleep if you've been drinking.

Great you had a good night!

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 11/08/2011 10:37

jackmania i couldn't think how else to word it so it made sense :o

Jacksmania · 11/08/2011 18:22

:o It was brilliant Melly, I'm still laughing!

auntmargaret · 11/08/2011 19:28

YANBU, the amount of alcohol that gets into breastmilk is pretty tiny, and its better for baby to have stress free mum who has had a good night out and has re-charged her batteries. Enjoy your night :)
