To be all tearful because...

I was at my sisters house earlier for lunch and was talking to her in the kitchen while she cooked. I was talking to her about the financial difficulties DP and I are having. I am very stressed about it and admit I had a little bit of a cry (needed a hug from my big sis).

Unbeknownst to me my 9 year old DNephew was listening from the other room, not playing on his DS like we thought.

When I went in there he said he wanted a 'talk' and told me he'd been saving his pocket money up and wanted me to have it.

I would never take his money, but his gesture had me welling up. Especially because his savings are for a skateboard that he's wanted desperately for months. What a lovely little man he is...

My DP tells me I go 'mushy' over the boy and that it's silly because he isn't my child (although we are very close) but I think I have good reason to, he is a star.

That's lovely - there is hope for so-called Broken Britain.

It reminds me of last Christmas when DD1 (9 at the time) summoned me into her bedroom and told me tearfully that she knew Father Christmas wasn't real and it was us buying the presents, and that she didn't want us to buy anything big because of the recession. Hard pressed not to tear up then, either.
