Riots give the nasty racists an excuse to crawl out of the woodwork on facebook

On FB, I have seen loads of idiots posting stuff which tries to blame the race of a person for the rioting. Most of them don't even know the facts reported by the BBC. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Completely agree WiiUnfit (fab name btw!) A friend of mine who lives near one of the riots said that people were just walking in, taking stuff out of the shops and then checking to make sure they had all the right sizes!

I nicked this from Twitter:

To be 'a protestor' you need to be 'protesting'. The official term for someone who 'steals things and burns shit' is 'a cunt'.

leftblank · 09/08/2011 16:46

Totally agree!! If they would bother to watch the news before jumping on a band wagon they'd see it is all different races.

Thumbwitch · 09/08/2011 16:52

Wow, I hadn't seen any racist stuff on FB until about an hour ago, when a FB friend was attacked by some racist fucker (who, oddly enough, had a very poor command of written English!) - it was utterly horrifying! not just what he wrote about "immigrants" but the attack he then made on my friend! Disgusting. Beyond belief. Can't believe people like that exist, they are so vile and offensive. :( and Angry

electra · 09/08/2011 16:56

The racists represent further ugliness I would rather not see on my home page. I did argue with one earlier on a friend's page. Really could not just leave it and say nothing.

I am glad that people are making a stand against these racist. They are so stupid ffs, haven't they watched the news, there are people of every colour.
Many of these people are as thick as two planks of wood.

LolaRennt · 09/08/2011 17:00

Hey check out this petition:

epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/7337

"Convicted London rioters should loose all benefits."

This will obviously be taken very seriously by the government

Riveninside · 09/08/2011 17:06

Lots of racist stuff on fb. Edl site particuarly vile

Jacanne · 09/08/2011 17:08

Absolutely agree - unfortunately some from DH's more distant relations - who will become more distant now.

WiiUnfit · 09/08/2011 17:09

My friend's fb friend commented on his status about how she would be "down Manchester like a shot if it all kicks off there because our government need a fucking good slap in the face" Hmm a few people (myself included) commented on how pathetic she was being.

forehead · 09/08/2011 17:10

My next door neighbour ,who is black has just told me that her dc's aged 5 and 7 have been racially abused several times today(we live in a predominantly white area and they were at a playscheme). As a result her ds(aged 5) says that 'he hates white people'.

This is what racism does, it alienates good people.

WiiUnfit · 09/08/2011 17:14

forehead, unfortunately, that doesn't surprise me :( People Racist pricks get an idea in their head & run with it, tarring everyone with the same brush & making relations worse.

cheekeymonkey · 09/08/2011 17:16

Be my guest mediawhore. (takes a bow)
My point exactly Wiiunfit, what on earth, it proves the theory that racists are unintelligent and narrow-minded.
Grin lola

Granny23 · 09/08/2011 17:30

We will never get to the bottom of the problems if we try to blame them on immigrants or people with black skins. From what I have seen the rioters/thugs/vandals are ALL young and predominantly male. I have seen older people and women looting but not being violent, either to the Police or other people.

Therefore the demographic causing the trouble is teenaged males. Obviously the vast majority of teenaged males are not involved, so we need to look at those who are and what else they have in common other than their age and gender. Red herrings, such as race, religion and colour of skin, simply muddy the waters.

KRIKRI · 09/08/2011 17:43

On Sunday, I wondered how the US media outlets were covering what happened in Tottenham and rather stupidly checked Fox News website. The article looked like it has just been lifted from the Sun's website (not surprising) but the 2000 plus reader comments were absolutely ghastly. Okay, I shouldn't be surprised how utterly ignorant many Americans would be about what is happening in another country (I know that - I grew up in America!) but the disgusting language and overt racist language made my jaw drop - real incitement to racial hatred speech.

There will always be folks who spend most of their time scanning the horizons for "examples" to support their bigoted views. They aren't that bothered about accuracy, so have no problem ignoring the existence of white faces in a photo of rioters.

AbsDuCroissant · 09/08/2011 17:52

Too right granny23

maristella · 09/08/2011 18:16

YANBU I have read some utterly ridiculous racist declarations on FB today.

The best response to this comes from my friend:
"The awkward moment when you realise that 40% of your Facebook friends share the views of the BNP"

It got a lot of likes :)

There are people out on the streets who are angry, there are people out there who are oppotunists, and there are angry opportunists.

Tis all a crying shame

changeforthebetter · 09/08/2011 20:32

Agree, this has the potential to turn this already nastily dysfunctional society into something even worse Sad

addressbook · 09/08/2011 20:44

Well my cousin is an EDL supporter Sad.

My whole fucking family is racist and so I don't know how I turned out so tolerant and disgusted by racism.

I don't speak to some of them or see them little though

OracleInaCoracle · 09/08/2011 20:51

I'm furious, I've had a huge row with my dbs bil today. He called me a retard, a mong, a scrawny bitch and said that I should have been in one of the houses that burnt. Charmer.

Swarski · 09/08/2011 20:51

Someone at work said to me today 'bet they are rioting because they are grumpy from not eating from sunrise to sunset'!!!Shock it is Ramadan at the moment - unfortunately I was speechless and could not pull him up on this awful racist comment!!

WiiUnfit · 09/08/2011 22:41

Swarski, your friend knows of Ramadan but not that Muslims do not partake in such activities during this time, fail.

I just remembered another racism fail from the World Cup page I was on about before, a guy said something like "its like saying to a muslim take your turbin off", a guy kindly pointed out that few Muslims wear turbans, it is really more of a Sikh thing.

electra · 10/08/2011 00:14

mumsnet is the one place I can come where I can pretty much guarantee people will find racism as disgusting as I do......unlike in RL sadly.
