To believe Theresa May has to stand down NOW

Mitmoo · 09/08/2011 08:06

I am watching Theresa May on television this morning and can't believe what I am hearing. I do not feel she knows what she's doing.

It goes like this from interviews this morning, this is Sky's.

May: "Rioters need to know their behaviour is not acceptable again officers looking through CCTV footage of thugs with their faces"

May: "Wait and see what sentences will be passed on these people".

May appeals for family and friends to shop the thugs.

May: Refuses to consider water cannon or army.

More May Madness: "I ask parents to ask where your children are and if they are out on the streets then stop it."

Stop it? This is her solution. She has to go, I hadn't got an opinion on her before this morning, but that woman has got to go.

The thugs are quaking in their boots. NOT

May: "They way we police in this country is by consent"

There is no consent you stupid woman.

Eammon Holmes: Peoples' consent is they want the army, the water cannon, and control to be restored. Will you give them the peoples consent?"

May: Getting rattled, "We police by consent and we ask the community blah blah blah."

May: "It's possible to cut the police budgets and still for the police to be effective."

The police are not effective what is she watching?

Eamonn not doing a bad job of questioning her, needs to be more hardline but best interview this morning.

She is saying she will stop this by asking for people to shop the rioters, having police look through cctv and the ones already arrested being in court.

I feel more frightened now than I ever did before listening to her.

I want someone in who will take decisive action, get the army in put a curfew in place to back up the police.

Alpine, why not, they are hardly showing any regard for others safety or property. They aren't children they are animals and whether it's down to the parents to teach them right from wrong however, I suspect in a number of cases they are out there joining in the rioting.

FreudianSlipper · 09/08/2011 08:55

the army are trained in combat they are not trained in how to deal with gangs rampaging what use would they be

and i much as i dislike her and those in power at present i feel this is not the time for sackings (unless its the police involved with the shooting that started all this off) its a time for all parties to pull together with ideas on how to stop this not use it as score pointing that can all start once things settle down we do not know if this will not happen again and we need to prevent that more than anything

Mitmoo · 09/08/2011 08:55

Alpine: who said anything about firing rubber bullets at children? rolls eyes.

After the backlash the police received after the student riots - it's no wonder they're not going in heavy handed.
In this country the police seem to be ineffective for fear of getting sued or vilified in the press.
There would be an outcry if a rioter was hurt by the police - wrong wrong wrong.

About time this was turned around

'the army are trained in combat they are not trained in how to deal with gangs rampaging what use would they be'

actually atm DP's unit has just finished training for going into prisions if needed if the officers there get into trouble, they are trained in gangs and rampages, difference is they don't have the same rules and tied hands of the police - as he was saying the other day when I said about it - the army would go in with force and a lot of it to restore the order & ask questions after, if people were hurt along the way (ie rioters) then they would be hurt but order restored.

there's enough in the uk still sprogger,

may is insisting the police can handle things. action is needed not more talk, atm you have kids running riot on streets thinking they own it and LAUGHING at police who are under manned and have their hands tied - what sort of a place is that we live in? why are the politicians not doing more than talking when innocent people here ae loosing their homes, innocent families loosing their lively hoods - things are tough enough out there atm in the current climate for the average family, what makes these idiots thing they're eneitled to do this and get away with it? action is needed.

sprogger........so you think its all just going to fizzle out then??

plupervert · 09/08/2011 09:35

Thank goodness some other people think we don't need the army in. I'm beginning to get a bit scared!

Police are meant to deal with this sort of thing.

Mitmoo - do you really think the government spending time NOW reorganising and calling for individuals to stand down is a good use of their time? I would like May's response to be more hard line, although I think martial law is not needed at this stage. But there are more pressing things to deal with this morning.

porcamiseria · 09/08/2011 10:23

why? what will that solve? stupid post OP

plupervert · 09/08/2011 10:26

One thing the armed forced could do - or the RAF, at least, is seed the clouds for rain!

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 09/08/2011 10:48

I see your dilemma Mitmoo - should you keep your security light on to deter looters, or turn it off as it may be a beacon to rioters?

But I don't understand why you "feel more frightened now than I ever did before listening to her" unless you're expecting Ms May to knock on your door and invite herself in to watch your new tv.
