DC's friends wanting to eat lunch with us - although they are Muslim and it's Ramadan?

I'm fairly friendly with the neighbours a few doors down, mainly because of the kids. Today they came in for a couple of hours and wanted to stay for lunch. My three were really upset that the others couldn't stay but I thought it was best to send them home as although we're not Muslim I didn't want to disrespect the neighbours' beliefs and potentially upset relations. Was this the right thing to do, or should I just have let the kids eat with us anyway? DH thinks I was pandering to the parents and it caused an unnecessary fuss.

I was pretty sure IWNBU, but as usual DH chose to turn it into an argument so I started doubting myself (sigh) :-( Thank you everyone!

YADNBU - you did the right thing - agree ignore your DH, he's been a bit of an ignorant prat Wink

You did the right thing. It's not a religious argument at all - simply respecting that these are other people's children and when they come into your home you do your best to 'chaperone' them as their parents would wish!

Your poor DH - such a fine line to tread between being one of these brave 'opinionated' souls and an arsey knob-end, isn't it? Grin

You totally did the tight thing IMO.

I'd have fed them. If the kids are hungry they should be given food.

Did the right thing on balance, but children don't fast until around 12, though they may 'practice'. Should've asked the parents.

I'd have been so grateful if someone fed DS to save me a job when preparing the extensive food for later!

Breastfeeding mothers may also defer ----> goes off to grab more biscuits.

Pmsl laught meant the right thing Grin

Yes you did the right thing. If you'd fed them, it might have caused a falling out. Though you could maybe have asked them for that occasion.
