I won't name the author but will reproduce it.

Amy was not a sinner
She was a talented Grammy Awards Winner
With her unique music sound
She broke new ground

As she stormed both sides of the Atlantic
She knew how to make audiences tick
On stage she showed no fear
Being a talent so dear

She was hugely creative
And her music was highly rated
Amy was a star
Who shone from afar

Her albums sold worldwide well
Amy's music was fantastic and swell
At the age of twenty seven
Amy joins other musicians of her age in music heaven
RIP AMY

DD has been trying to memorise it all afternoon. At least she has been quiet.

No, Humourme, too quick and painless. Boiled in oil.

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 16:57

This is my salute to LyingWitchInTheWardrobe
Who is, it would appear, a LineRunnerPoem-ophobe
She thinks I'm not as good as Carol Ann Duffy
But I'm not the sort to get all huffy.

Honestly, I could go on like this all day.

Ode to Mitmoo, anyone?

valiumredhead · 06/08/2011 16:59

Is this the point where the OP says she or her dd wrote the poem? Grin

Mitmoo · 06/08/2011 17:02

Nancy I do find you rather crass,
For the record I'll be shoving nothing up my ass,
I suspect you might be a pro as you claim,
But a profession like that is a matter of shame.

Grin
LineRunner · 06/08/2011 17:04

I don't mind; I said it was delightful. It was the rest of you who were, if I'm frank, a tad rude.

I admit my own artistic skills veer towards the Neronian.

Jux · 06/08/2011 17:04

I like Nancy's pome. The one about Amy is complete and utter shite (I lifted this phrase verbatim from the 'unofficial guide to poetry criticism' Grin).

perplexedpirate · 06/08/2011 17:08

Is this a joke? That is beyond bad.

Humourme · 06/08/2011 17:12

I'm liking that idea, Andrewofgg. Maybe the oil boiling could be preceded by the amputation of some limbs though? Or is that too cruel?? Oh the dilemmas, the dilemmas.....:o

kittensliveupstairs · 06/08/2011 17:18

Well, DD declaimed it from the roundabout at the park. The good people of Warrington seemed less than impressed. Possibly because she forgot a few lines, maybe just because it is shite.

Aww LineRunner... I thought yours was the best of a bad bunch Grin

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 17:22

kittens, do you promise that it wasn't written by either you or your daughter?

Katisha · 06/08/2011 17:28

There was a young man from Japan
Whose poetry never would scan.
When asked why this was
He said, "It's because
I always try to fit as many words into the last line as ever I possibly can."

AnneWiddecomesArse · 06/08/2011 17:28

The poem is beyond belief shite.

KurriKurri · 06/08/2011 17:28

It's a crap poem, any poem which finishes with RIP AMY is crap, - that's a rule.

On the other hand if you can't learn a crap poem and declaim it from a roundabout in Warrington when you're a little girl, when can you? - Good for her Grin

Katisha · 06/08/2011 17:32

Well its obv struck a chord with your DD though.

TeamDamon · 06/08/2011 17:32

That poem is utterly shite. But then poems sent into the local paper almost always are.

Katisha · 06/08/2011 17:37

Perhaps we need a-
Nother Mumsnet haiku thread
For proper poems

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 17:41

Katisha, haikus
To my addled brain are just
Too damn difficult

GhoulLasher · 06/08/2011 17:49

Miss Amy Winehouse
Gone to another place now
She was beautiful

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 18:05
Andrewofgg · 06/08/2011 18:08

Absolute bullshit
Not remotely good verses
Please shoot the author.

Katisha · 06/08/2011 18:11

Kittensliveupstairs
GhoullLasher's haiku would be
easier to learn

As long as your daughter likes it, that's all that matters.
I expect I had similar bad taste when I was young.
If she was an Amy Winehouse fan, it'll be the sentiment, rather than the really crap poetry that she likes.

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 18:19

On BBC2
Tribute to Amy Winehouse
Half past ten tonight.
