DP has just got up. I got the girls dressed and ready and we've been out for the morning.

Usually DP has at least an extra hour in bed on weekdays and is often late for work because he won't (not can't) get up.

I get up with the girls on Saturday and sit for my grandma while grandad shops, and get up on Sunday to take them swimming. If I didn't get up they wouldn't go.

DP is now making all sorts of grunting noises because he thinks he's pulled his shoulder. I thinks it's just bloody numb from being in bed the last sixteen hours.

AIBU to get into bed for a sleep myself and leaving him to it with the girls? Especially as DD1 is about to be picked up by MIL to go for a walk?

he could be a martian from outer space who only sleeps on thursdays, but i doubt it

MissVerinder · 06/08/2011 14:39

He really is, Agent.

He can't stay up til the small hours and expect you to survive on little sleep and do all the childcare.

Go and have a nap.

Then get it sorted out so that sleep is more even.

AgentZigzag · 06/08/2011 14:41

If someone's body was allowing them to sleep that long (without any chemical cause) I would worry there was something amiss medically.

No slur on you Sardine Grin

Maybe some people can just sleep for 100 years without it making them feel like crap?

MissVerinder · 06/08/2011 14:41

sardine don't you think it's a bit off when you've got two under 3? My sister sleeps ages and that doesn't bother me at all.

And, (sniff) what about me?

X post sardine

I think it's unhealthy
You should all be doing family things together
Not sleeping
The kids go to bed at seven don't they? Then you've got all evening to snooze if you want

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/08/2011 14:46

Good god woman go to bed.

He does sound like a bit of a pillock, but sleep apnoea does seem a real possibility. Will he go to the Drs?

MmeLindor. · 06/08/2011 14:47

Nothing against an occasional lie in but to sleep till 2pm every weekend and Lear your partner and children to amuse themselves is bloody selfish.

And what about his job? He cannot really risk getting fired in this economic climate because he is constantly late. That is not on.

MissVerinder · 06/08/2011 14:47

CJ the girls go to bed about half seven. The evening is then for ironing blah blah blah household jobs I don't get to do during the day for various reasons.

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 14:48

There is an optimum amount of sleep for each person. Mine is 8-9 hours. Other people find that 7 is best. If I sleep less than that I'm a basket case; more, and I'm sluggish.

Hey, it's all about me!

Sorry, OP, over to you. I think that you and your OH remind me of my dear neighbours. Every morning is a row (can hear it!) about getting up and alarms and the kids and getting to work; yet every night they seem to stay up so bloody late for no apparent reason. My halo and I on the other hand retire at 10pm.

Anyway go and get some sleep. Smile

MissVerinder · 06/08/2011 14:49

Am considering sleep apnoea as a possibility.

Miss Verinder, the stuff about sleeping long hours+still being tired+snoring loudly really stuck out to me. He should definitely go to his doctor and get checked out, sleep apnoea would make the quality of his sleep rubbish. I've heard of people using CPAP machines to help with it (but am by no means an expert here).

ScrambledSmegs · 06/08/2011 14:55

Agree with all those who've suggested sleep apnea. He should really get checked out as I've read that it can be dangerous for sufferers in certain cases Sad.

And yes! Go to bed!

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/08/2011 14:57

If he's snoring badly, he (and you!) will not be getting deep refreshing sleep. I would force him to go to the GP and see if anything can be done about it. Is he overweight? (I now snore because I am so overweight Blush.) Have any reason to be unable to breathe through his nose?

But being late for work often - that's just not on. That's a choice he's making.

LineRunner · 06/08/2011 14:57

My exH had this (snoring, sleep apnoea) and be honest I really did hope that it killed him.

SardineQueen · 06/08/2011 14:59

I used to live with a loud snorer and it was hell. When we split up I got my first proper nights sleep in a few years. It was a revelation, not being woken several times a night.

And now I have small children Sad

NorfolkNChance · 06/08/2011 14:59

All joking aside this sounds like me, I have M.E. and can quite happy sleep for 20 hour stretches if I could.

SardineQueen · 06/08/2011 15:02

He is being selfish though. My comments about long sleeps weren't about your situation Op, but how I find it funny that people react in a terribly old fashioned way about it being immoral or something, even when it's not actually affecting them or anyone else!

You need to sort it out. He is still behaving as if he doesn't have children - and he does. He can't stay up til 4 doing IKEA every night on the basis he can stay in bed til 2 on Saturday.... Because he can't stay in bed til 2 on Saturday.... Because he has children who get up earlier than that and he needs to pull his weight with them.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 06/08/2011 15:11

I thought sleep apnoea too (well not apnoea, so much as "something is not right with his sleeping, he needs to see a doctor")

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 06/08/2011 15:26

My dd who is 5 has sleep apnoea and even she sleeps for only 10/11 hours a night.

onemoreminute · 06/08/2011 21:42

wow i think of 8 o'clock as a lie in (my son gets up at 8). Hope you had a sleep.

MissVerinder · 06/08/2011 21:45

Ha ha, onemore I ended up getting up and going to b and q. Only because I drank too much red bull this morning!

I agree that people love to judge other's sleeping patterns Grin. Like when someone wakes you up with a phone call and you pretend to have been awake for ages (surely not just me?) but with a weirdly thick voice? Grin.

Regular sleep ins till 2pm, however, would point to a medical problem or a case of extreme arseholeselfish laziness (that's a recognised technical term btw) . I'd look into both.
