AIBU trying to arrange dinner with a friend?

Ok, so I talked to my friend on the phone last week end and asked if she wanted to meet for dinner tonight. She said she would get back to me. She didn't so:

Email from me to her today:
When do you want to meet for dinner? I am going away with work next Sunday for one week for work.

Email from her:
I thought we were meeting today, but yes lets do another day.

Email from me:
Today is fine too, I am not working today. What do you want to do for dinner, shall we go out for some lebanese food or do you prefer indian?

Email from her:
lets organise something before you go away??

Email from me:
No, let's stick to today, I am still free tonight!

Email from her!
Sorry can't make today. It's my mother in laws bday.

WTF? I am so confused! This isn't the first time she has done this and it's getting really annoying. I feel like she is annoyed with me because I assumed we weren't meeting tonight after she didn't confirm but then she sends me a mail saying she couldn't make it anyway?

I am still annoyed with her about my wedding.Whilst she did the most beautiful reading at my wedding, she was always too busy to come wedding dress shopping and shoe shopping with me when I got married two months ago. She was also supposed to come to my house to help me get dressed but was 45 minutes late (as usual). Grr!

I am really wondering if it's worth staying friends with this crazy illogical person.

Well she did say in her first email that she wanted to meet another day, but you persisted until she was pushed into giving you a reason. I don't see what's so illogical about that.

ZacharyQuack · 05/08/2011 13:28

Why did she need to go shoe and dress shopping with you?

roses2 · 05/08/2011 13:31

Read the email again:

Email from her:
I thought we were meeting today, but yes lets do another day.

It was when I was looking for a wedding dress and shoes earlier this year that she was always too busy to come.

I did read it Hmm. It says quite clearly 'let's do another day'.

ZacharyQuack · 05/08/2011 13:33

Maybe she didn't want to go wedding dress shopping with you. It sounds like she doesn't want to have dinner with you tonight.

I think she's just a bit too subtle.

I know people like this and it's blimmin annoying. I don't know why they can't just say things as they are and be straightforward and honest in the first place. She was deliberately trying not to tell you she couldn't make it so that it looked like you were the one that was rearranging things.

LineRunner · 05/08/2011 13:35

I suspect I am very like your friend.

May I apologise on both our behalves to all our long suffering friends. We do have redeeming features, honest.

Sadly, however, we are incapable of being properly involved in wedding preparations and dinner arrangements that involve making the smallest decision.

Very loyal, though.

Groovee · 05/08/2011 13:36

She's replied to you saying lets do another day, then possibly phoned her MIL and said I'll come round tonight seeing as I am now free. I would have emailed saying what are the arrangements for tonight instead of when do you want to meet. The first email doesn't mention meeting tonight and she's now changed her plans, you're just as illogical as you're saying she is.

sancerrre · 05/08/2011 13:38

And as for the wedding dress shopping, this is something I wouldn't enjoy but I'd do it for a friend. Some people are just really inconsiderate. The lateness shows this too.

bananasplitz · 05/08/2011 13:39

shoe and dress shopping

shudders and comes out in cold sweat

roses2 · 05/08/2011 13:40

Hmm. Maybe it seems I am being unreasonable then.

She was my maid of honour hence why I expected her out of all people to come with me wedding dress shopping.

I guess next time I arrange dinner with her, I will chase her up to remind her that she said she will let me know if she is free to meet.

She has double booked you and her mil, so doesn't want to look an idiot. She tried to make it seem as if you were being unreasonable, but you aren't - she is.

As for the shoe shopping - some people just aren't that into shopping. But she should have been straightforward with you.

Your friend has honesty issues.
