To think the Natascha Kampusch story is somewhat strange?

I have just started reading her autobiography, but I just find the whole thing so weird.

Why did he do it and how did nobody know about it? And what happened to her abuser in the end? Did he end up in prison?

I still find the whole story really bizarre.

i read it - i really enjoyed ( iykwim) her book
was very revealing about the control she wanted to have over herslef afterwards that made her less sympathetic as a " survivor"

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/08/2011 19:50

I've just downloaded it. Looking forward to reading it, if looking forward is the right word.

she keeps a lot private which i think is good.
there was a bit that was really different and intersting - when she refused to hate him..

KaySirah · 04/08/2011 19:51

i thihk oyu need to read the book SGM
her take on it is unique

BrigadeOfLannisters · 04/08/2011 19:52

The kidnapper jumped under a train IIRC.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 04/08/2011 19:52

Her captor threw himself in front of a train the day that Natasha escaped.

MrsGerardButler · 04/08/2011 19:52

I read it last week and found it utterly compelling and have nothing but admiration for how she coped with her kidnap and the aftermath of it.

The kidnapper threw himself in front of a train a couple of hours after she escaped.

chugsy · 04/08/2011 19:53

I thought he killed himself when he realised he'd escaped?

Agree somewhat strange isn't the right wording and horrific is.

KaySirah · 04/08/2011 19:53

at one point there was a suggestion that her parents knew him - her dad di some kind of delivery round didnt he in the Kneipen of the area.

i liked the way she decided that by a certain point she was going to try to escape etc

edam · 04/08/2011 19:53

It's not merely 'somewhat' strange, it's extraordinary. Haven't read her book but do hope the poor woman has found some peace.

orienteerer · 04/08/2011 19:53

He committed suicide the same day under the nearest train.

KaySirah · 04/08/2011 19:55

ok we know he went under the train nnow guys"

chugsy · 04/08/2011 19:56

Hmm KaySirah.

iwanttolearn · 04/08/2011 19:57

Why didn't anyone find her though? I'm just at the part when she arrives at her prison.

she was snatched and did they miss a chance to inteview him - think he was on a list but missed

BrigadeOfLannisters · 04/08/2011 19:59

She does sound like an extraordinary young woman.

SardineQueen · 04/08/2011 20:04

Agree with SGM

(I haven't read the book though)

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 04/08/2011 20:06

The OP asked I answered

iwanttolearn · 04/08/2011 20:13

OK, off to make a cuppa and finish reading the book now. Grin

I definitely want to read the ending. I remember hearing about it in 2006, but something like this seems unfathomable, doesn't it? I don't know all of the details, but it's just one of those stories that is so horrible, it's hard tobelieve it happened and she lived to tell about it.

Good for her! :)

I read it recently too. Yes it is a strange story, but if you read it you will find out what happened.

HPonEverything · 04/08/2011 21:23

There was a suggestion she had Stockholm Syndrome wasn't there? I also recall she ended up buying the house where she was held captive.

Was this also the case where it was suggested her mother had 'arranged' the kidnapping?
