To think that multibuys and BOGOFs are a bad idea all round?

I am now getting so angry and frustrated that I am thinking of starting a campaign.

Every single time I go to a supermarket I end up having to buy extra stuff because I 'can't afford not to'. There are five of us, and I am lucky enough to be able to afford to pay out extra for multibuys to get the best deals, but I resent all the messing about and waste. Not to mention the environmental impact all the extra packets creates.

Anyone who doesn't have the cash to buy three packs of toilet roll at once, or can't possibly eat two pineapples in one week is really paying over the odds on these items. I'm beginning to think that the 'real' price is the offer price in many cases anyway.

I think what OP is also saying is that often the items which are on offer are at a vastly inflated price - so they're not a genuine BOGOF or whatever the deal is.

This was quite noticeable a few months back when Tesco did it's price promise double the difference thing which fell over spectacularly. There were numerous items which were on offer at Tesco on, for e.g., BOGOF but when the individual unit price was compared with Asda it was often close to double the price of the item that wasn't on offer. And the same was true for Asda offers.

You do get some which are genuinely good, but often they aren't and people who are struggling can find themselves caught out.

And have you noticed in sainsburys sometimes they dont even put the price out for some items and/or you pick something up and realise the price you are looking at is for something entirely different and should be further along the shelf

Thought tesco were doing a trial of "Buy one get one free later" on perishable goods, did anything happen with that?

I'm a saddo and quite like comparing all the different offers, working out prices per 100g, and never letting Mr Tesco man outwit me so I can come out of the shop feeling victorious

alowvera yy to 2 for £4 when each costs £1.98. Tesco has a permanent 'offer' on tinned pulses. 3 tins for £1. But each one cost 34p

BOGOF can work on fruit and veg if you have big freezer. Or if you have a bbq party for vegetarians

I bought long life juices for a year because they are buy one get 2 free. Each costs £1.45, so less than 50p each (1l), good for parties etc.

I am going to order books for the holidays now and i 'm tempted to buy the one recommended above. Will it be very sad to read about uk supermarkets in the Med beach? I want to read it.

Tesco transfer the cost of BOGOF fruit to the supplier in many cases, I had a friend in Dorset who was selling strawberries and blackcurrants to them at a loss.

I buy stuff on special IF it's actually an offer and not Tesco Value Mathematics (like 3 for 1 or 30p each) that they're very fond of - if it's stuff I'm going to use, if it's stuff that's not going to go off and if it's stuff I was going to get anyway - things like dishwasher tablets and loo roll and the like. I'm a bugger for scrutinising their price per 100g smallprint on the shelf edges though.

Determined never to get like my gran who could never resist a bargain -when we cleared out her house after her death it was like layers of geological strata of what was on BOGOF in Morrissons that month - you went through the 10 jars of instant coffee and into the Crunchy Nut Cornflake layer, down into bog roll... nuts.
