I've recently moved house and met a new bunch of people. I've also just been away for a few weeks visiting family overseas. I arrived back yesterday morning after a very long trip. I sent a text to my neighbour asking if she fancied popping over for coffee and a catch up - she said she was busy today but could come over tomorrow morning - fine. I've just received a text sent to everyone in our bunch of friends (and to me too) saying "coffee morning tomorrow at graceandbeauty's house".

I think it must be a misunderstanding but I didn't plan for 6 or 7 ladies and don't have anything to give them! I just meant for my neighbour to come and spend an hour but now she's told them all and I don't have the car tomorrow to go and get anything! Now wondering if I should say something but it looks so picky.....AIBU?

Possibly not the best comparison, but my good friend is a cycle courier. Couriers tend to hang around in packs and eat a lot of cake, so when she gets together with her deranged bike nutter courier friends it's standard practice for them all to converge on each others' houses bringing cake or biscuits to share. Why not just ask your friends to do the same? It's fair enough, especially as you've only just come back and are run off your feet.

BTW, google 'dairy free cakes' or 'butter free cakes' Or pop over to neighbour's house ( the one who invited all) and borrow some!

A breastfeeding cycle courier would be a menace to cake.

The weird thing is that I've not had any messages from anyone to say if they are coming or not. I think I'll text my neighbour in the morning to ask how many I should expect, and ask her to bring food at the same time.

OTheHuge that sounds like the perfect job by the way.

I'd make your neighbour give you butter, a lift to the shops as she invited them all Grin

talkingnonsense · 04/08/2011 16:44

You can make carrot cake with oil instead of butter, google?

joric · 04/08/2011 16:50

Op, text them with instructions request to bring cake and ask them to reply if they can come.
