DVLA just phoned. It has been issued. Thus I can drive again, as of midnight tonight. It sure has been a hard slog. 2 months of phone calls and sobs. I think hiring the top socilitor for driving, Philip Somarakis, from Blake Laptorn, helped alot.
But I sure have sobbed on mn, literally, and in writing.
And Mn has been such a fabulous support to me. So I just wanted to say:
Thank You Very Much.

Suggestion Smile get back on the A3, come into Kingston and go to Richmond Park! I love driving around the park - it is s-l-o-w but you'll probably see some deer, the weather's great and you can stop for a coffee at Pembroke Lodge - parking's free! Enjoy Grin

Hi Oblomov, so glad u got your license back! I have similar problems with the DVLA because of diabetes. I actually had a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2007 and hadn't learnt to drive until then (because I was scared and I had unstable retinopathy at the time). After having my transplant I didn't need insulin anymore, would not have hypos etc but applying for my provisional license took months with letters going backwards and forwards to various consultants. My eyes stabilised and my opthamologist at the hospital confirmed this with the DVLA yet when I passed my test they only gave me a license for 6 months and no one could tell me why! After 6 months I had to apply again and got a 3 year one which I was pleased about. Now I let the DVLA know if I ever need some more laser on my eyes as this can affect your peripheral vision but I have to fill out lots more forms, then they send me to have an eye test and write to my consultant and then they tell me whether I can drive or not. It's a tense wait and the optician tells me thst the results of my eye test are confidential and they won't tell me if I have 'passed' or not so I have to wait to hear back from the DVLA! I can totally understand this though as if my eyes don't meet the requirements I could be dangerous on the road. So happy for you :), well done.

Oblomov · 06/08/2011 13:59

cluky, I am so sorry to hear that. I think I may like to talk to you again Wink if thats o.k. I have never talked to anyone who has had a transplant.
Last October they did talk to me about the possibility of Islet, and then possibly a pancreas transplant. But we haven't talked about it since. Hardly surprising with all this DVLA bollocks.

Oh Obs, that's such good news, but it's unbelievable what a hideous slog it's been for you, not to mention the cost. Are you lodging some kind of complaint?
