AIBU: birthday 'wish list' posted on Facebook

A FB friend (but not someone I know that well in RL) has a 'big' birthday coming up. She has posted a link from FB to her 'wish list' on Amazon. It contains over 2000 items! In the FB message she isn't explicitly demanding that people buy things from the list, but even so... AIBU to think this is weird/cheeky/rude? Or is this sort of thing now socially acceptable and I'm living in the past? (She is younger than me.)

Maybe she's had lots of requests for ideas? If it has 2000 items then she's clearly not expecting to get everything but it's useful to have suggestions of things that she doesn't already have but would like. I assume if it's amazon it's not all super expensive. If you're not really friends in RL, just ignore it.

Its a bit weird posting it on Facebook but honestly, she may as well get stuff she wants.

On a side note, did you know Amazon now has a "universal" wish list so you can add stuff from any website to your Amazon wish list and it "manages" it for you (i.e removing the item if it gets purchased, etc, I think anyway) - I added some stuff to mine yesterday from other websites (though I wouldn't post it on Facebook)

It means when people ask me for my Amazon wish list I am not constrained to things only available on Amazon. Result!

I think it's ridiculous! One thing if asked, but to just put it on fb seems rude to me...

I would secretly love to do this, but never actually would. You say you aren't that close to her, so perhaps a lot of her RL friends have asked for it. At least she isn't going to get clothes in the wrong size that can't be returned/toiletries I wouldn't buy for myself/cds/dvds/books that aren't my cup of tea.

I don't think she is posting the list with the expectation that all her FB friends should take note. But that makes it even weirder to post it doesn't it? And it's nearly 100 pages/2000 items. How would you have time to compile it?
