I have a chance at redeployment and I am being interviewd on Thursday.

I have everything to lose if I don't get this job.

Could you give me your best interview tips?

I had feedback from my last one and I apparently was very good at facts and procedures but didn't talk about relationships. That is by the by.
Last time I was interviewed by people I know, this time it is in a different department and I don't know the panel.

What are your weaknesses?

'I have a tendency to get very involved in a project, and have been working on delegating more responsibility instead of taking it all on myself.'

Ie. 'I am a workaholic' - worked for me in my last job.

Good luck.

If you want to use the above, this would be a more positive answer.
"I have a tendency to get very involved in a project. I overcome this by making sure that I communicate regularly with the people I'm working with so that everyone is properly involved".
Of course, you can only talk about delegating responsibility if you will be in a position to do that. If not, then it's a strength to be able to take direction and muck in where required.

My one tip would be to make sure you have some really good questions to ask them in return - some of my favourites include:

What do you consider the best/worst aspects of the role?
What do you think are the most important qualities needed for this role?
What do you/your company value the most in your employees?
If you were me, what question would you be asking?
Do you have any issues about my ability to perform this role, that I can address for you now?

I always treat interviews as if I'm interviewing the company to see if I want to work for them - don't forget it's a two-way process and you need to see if the job is right for you as well as the other way around.

Good luck!

good luck

upahill · 05/08/2011 08:37

YES YES YES!!!!!

I GOT IT!

I am no longer going to be made redundant!

My old job (which I have lost) has changed beyond recognition and everyone is running round stressed and struggling while I am just cruising working out my notice. ALthough I was heartbroken at losing the job I am over the moon about getting this new one as it brings together aspects of nearly all my former jobs and I will still have ties with the old department and my colleagues there!!

Thanks for all the tips.

I'm just marking my place on here so I can find this thread in a few weeks - interview coming up and there are some great tips here!

porcamiseria · 05/08/2011 09:41

good luck

dress rich, ie simple/classic stuff, go easy on the make up

go slooooow, we always come across faster than we think. take time to think, speak slowly

agree that women dont big themselves up, and by god men do!!!!! write your sucesses down and collate into 3 bullet points per sucess

slow down and read the room, I get feedback that I am so anxious to speak that I dont 4ead the room. as you speak slowly anhd calmly, look around the room, it may be that a consice example is good

some good advice on here
