To tell children off for throwing stones at a cat

I live on a small new build estate, there are loads of children running around screaming and generally being kids which is fine. Except I just came home and found a few of them throwing stones at a cat that was hiding under a caravan. This makes my blood boil, animal cruelty is not on in any shape or form. So I walked up and calmly stated 'don't throw stones at the cat, ive just seen you do it and it isn't nice'. They looked at me sheepishly and I walked away and left it at that.

I don't know the children in question so was IBU to say something?

i caught our neighbours kids throwing stones at my cat, also kicking him and pulling him about. They range between 3 and 7 so definately know better. I must admit i shouted at them. If i ever see them do it again i will speak to their parents, and if that doesn't work, i will consider phoning the police. My cat is the softest most tolerant cat i have ever known. My 3 year old isn't exactly always nice to him, but gets in big trouble if he tries to hurt him.

YANBU and i agree, a child that shows enjoyment from hurting something, whatver it is has problems which need to be sorted asap or something more terrible will surely follow.

Well done, and if you see the same kids doing it again contact the RSPCA

Mitmoo · 01/08/2011 19:37

I've read the OPs post to two 14 year olds, the answer is resoundingly you are not being unreasonable one said "I hate animal cruelty" the other said "would you stop putting our comments on the internet you are being really annoying. Grin

Mit- thanks for that it made me laugh, good to know I have the approval of the younger generation. I will keep an eye on them, generally they don't cause trouble but will be more aware now. If it happens again I'll find their parents house and tell them plus probably RSPCA.

YANBU.

I'd say that anyway as seeing kids be cruel to animals makes my blood boil ,if that wasn't reason enugh not to do it, the little brat who used live next door broke my car window with a stone last year... his excuse? : 'I was aiming for your cat' AngryAngryAngry

I had words... loud ones in front of his mother too.

Mitmoo · 01/08/2011 19:57

Tsil you are welcome, my lad and his friends are animal lovers, most kids are lovely, my son's friends have been rallying around because I have bad an anxiety at the moment. Shame a few bad apples........
