what is the going rate of the tooth fairy?

my daughter is 6 and needs to get 7, possibly 9 teeth taken out at hospital. and normally when she loses a tooth the fairy leaves her a £2 coin. with the prospect of this many coming out at once i wondered if there is current rate for teeth or special rates for lots at once. i have some time before she gets this done so can organise a 2nd mortgage.

My dd2 gets £1 for a tooth, your tooth fairy must be rich, lol dd2 had 5 teeth taken out earlier this year in hospital and she got a £5 note from the tooth fairy.

£1 a tooth I would say too. DD1 is just 6 so expecting wobbly teeth soon.

Not suggesting you follow suit, but I met someone recently whose tooth fairy left their child £20 for one tooth!!!!!

friends with children of same age have ranged from 50p to £5 a tooth so i'm thinking of buying her a gift for being a brave wee soul and then money but i don't want to start a precedent i can't afford. i also have a boy who is 2.

My bonkers sil gives £20 per tooth, I'm tempted to knock a few of mine out while i am over there later as i have got a large gas bill to pay

I don't think the tooth fairy should get a discount for bulk buying. It's saving her time to collect them all at once after all. She could argue that your DD could make more interest on the money by having it sooner than if they fell out naturally but I think the convenience for the tooth fairy outweighs this.

As an aside, I hope your dd is ok and doesn't find it too traumatic.

every year in british dental journal they say what going rate for tooth fairy is on average its about £1.43 per tooth more in south and london slightly less in north

as a dentist you definitely should not get more if it was extracted, that's like rewards for really bad holes in teeth ( unless extracted to make room for others)

From chatting to kids (and their parents - it's a continuing source of bemusement to me just how rich the toothfairy's got these days!) it seems to be anything between £1/£2 round here - often with a first-time visit bonus £5.

I'm gobsmacked! Its 20p in our house. When DS's friend was telling us he lost a tooth on holiday and got a quid, I had to jump in with an amazed comment about how the on-holiday tooth fairy gives so much more....

OP Maybe the hospital tooth fairy could visit, you know the one that doesn't carry cash because it gets lost in hospital sometimes, and so the lucky children in hospital get a very special magical xyz instead?

50p here when DDs first tooth fell out the other month.. found the 50p under her bed the other day just not money orientated my daughter thank god!!

Our neighbours give £1 for the first, £2 for the second and so on.

I think it's because we live in an area with an abundance of young families. The poor tooth fairy would be broke if she had to spend any more on all those pearly whites ;)

The way things are going with the economy, I'm surprised that the tooth fairy hasn't taken to leaving IOUs to be repaid when child is age 18 or older.

£2 coin here, its enough to get a comic or treat from the shop after school.

50p for little ones £1 for big ones here. I'm off to find the pliers if shes dishing out fivers. Those who are dishing out £20 have far too much disposable income.
