...when my nearly 2 year old gets let out of time out?

She has just bit him. She did him a corker on the arm. I put her in the playroom. (It has a stair gate).

He can open it, she can't.

She's whinging to be let out. I asked DS if he wants her let out yet. He said no. He went and told her why.

She cried a bit more and after a couple of minutes he went and let her out "if you don't bite".

She hasn't bitten again (yet)

AIBU or do I need some more drugs/wine? It sort of worked... thus I am confused...

You have to be in charge. You.

For all your sakes.

FlubbaBubba · 29/07/2011 18:46

You are kidding aren't you? My children are the worst for telling others off and would probably never let their siblings off the step if it was up to them!! Hmm :o

2shoes · 29/07/2011 18:46

yabu you are the parent, you tell dd off not her brother

spookshowangel · 29/07/2011 18:47

what? are you the parent or are your children parenting themselves while you drink yourself silly........................actually that sounds like plan. woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

TattyDevine · 29/07/2011 18:47

Oh I told her off. Plonked her in the room, shut the gate.

He said "when is she coming out".

I said ....you decide.

Bad idea?

Fair dues, I'll go release her.

Liberation through delegation they say! Ah well. All in good time...

Tatty, your DCs may become crazed with power.

That really is your role.

LineRunner · 29/07/2011 18:50

And I've already been for my wine because I'm a better lush than you.

TattyDevine · 29/07/2011 18:51

But I'm already crazed with power

TattyDevine · 29/07/2011 18:53

Anyway, its not neglect its "fostering independence".

Its not ignoring them, its "autonomous learning"

And its definitely not "crazed with power" its "oh do fuck off, I do hate summer hols"...

you said in the OP that he let her out and so "it worked"

then you said ok, you'll go and release her...

TattyDevine · 29/07/2011 18:56

I know, I got confused because he's gone in there now and they are both in there with the gate shut and there are 2 strings off the guitar, whereas this morning there was only one.

2shoes · 29/07/2011 18:57

your op scared me, my brother would have had me shut in there for days lol

TattyDevine · 29/07/2011 18:58

I could just put them both in there and poke jam sandwiches through the holes. Advanced soundproofing system, home and hosed.

In 1897 you posted saying you didn't have a stair gate.

Now, you have suddenly started drinking wine.

Some inconsistency, surely???

thisisyesterday · 29/07/2011 19:07

well if they're both in there playing then no need to let either of them out surely?

GnomeDePlume · 29/07/2011 19:08

YANBU.

When DD1 was a similar age her fellow mindee bit her (yet again). Now DD has the sweetest nature but this was the final straw. DD chased mindee round CM's house until she caught him. She then put him in a headlock and pounded his head! DD was punished by CM (but not much) and fellow mindee never bit her again!

Sometimes a bit of direct justice is just the thing.

BTW DD is now 15 and still is sweet natured so the power didnt go to her head!

TattyDevine · 29/07/2011 19:11

Direct justice = "natural consequences" in lentil-weaving knit your own porridge terms.
