I get enough "ha haa! Look at your boobies!" comments from my own children. Today in the gym, 2 children about 3ish kept peering under the door as I showered in the communal shower area. The mum was in another cubicle so the children (who were fully dressed and changed) were just wandering about unattended.

Was I mean to "accidentally" flick soapy water at them as I rinsed my hair?

YANBU. There were a crowd of little horrors children at my last gym who would come in on a certain day with their mum and she just let them run riot. Once, they started yanking back the fabric curtain on an elderly lady's cubicle and shouting 'Who ate all the pies?' - she was visibly upset.

I told them off, possibly too loudly

I would have said very loudly and crossly "Stop looking under my cubicle door, its very rude".

yanbu thats really rude of the mum to leave them unattended to do that. she needs to keep them in her own cubicle to keep an eye on them if they cant be trusted to stand still somewhere. you should have told them off yourself then maybe the mum would have taken notice

haha - that's nothing - wait until you're in a clothes shop changing room and they decide to open the curtain when you have your trousers off and your top half halfway into a new dress - only when you hear the polite coughing do you realise that the curtain is open and you've picked the only changing room that is visible from the shop floor!!

YABU to flick soapy water at them, it would have really hurt if it got in their eyes.

YANBU to expect the mother to look after her children better, I would have been more concerned about their safety, what if they had wandered back to the pool area, fell in, or got into the gym and got behind a cycling machine.

The OP would be fine if she flicked soapy water at the mother but the kids don't know any better. It was the mother who was at fault. I'd have probably said something like "Can you please get your children out of my cubicle" I'd have vented at the mother.

I have perfected an evil look over the years. That and a firm, cold 'go away' does the trick. Very handy in supermarkets.

I really shouldn't work with children. I'm way too terrifying.

Mum dresses children.
Mum takes off soggy swimsuit.
Children disappear through the cubicle curtain at a rate of knots.
Mum can either get dressed as fast as possible leaving children temporarily loose or play chase toddler in the nude.

Please try not to judge her too harshly - she is in an impossible situation (and she's not thrilled a the idea of her toddler lying in verucca water while peering under cubicles either).

i always laugh when this happens, really can not understand why you are bothered

I would have made them eat the soap, the little horrors.

A loud and resounding 'OI' would have made them scarper.

I don't think I was the only annoyed one, I heard another lady say "please stop children" so obviously they were just checking out all the cubicles!

There wasn't any way for the kids to get back to the pool area, they were just wandering around the shower cubicles looking under the doors and giggling.

What got to me was that the mum was in the shower when I got there and was still in the shower when I got out! Occasionally shouting "don't wander off any of you." clearly wasn't working. I have 3 DCs and we all shower together or in cubicles next to each other. Then it's a crazy 15 minutes of getting dressed/hair brushed etc. I wouldn't leave my kids to run riot wihile I had a nice leisurely shower!

Mitmoo, I don't think the concentration of soap in the water as I was rinsing would have caused searing pain to any of the children involved!

Gym changing rooms. They are the cause of so much hassle in my existence! Trying to prevent my DS(4) from making loud comments about naked ladies has me breaking out in a sweat most of the time!

i hate this.in my gym they hold aqua flaming tots and the kids keep pulling back the shower curtain while im in there,tbh i feel a bit sorry for them,ive had 5 kids it aint a pretty sight

I admit telling them to stop becasue they are being rude is an even better option though.

alark why hurt the children for the mother's difficulties? Soap in your eyes hurt, if I put soapy water in your eyes it could be classified as an assault by the police. You don't do that to toddlers who don't know any better, you have a go at the mother not toddlers.

To me it was cowardly TBH.

Upsy I didn't say "searing" pain, but do you think getting soapy water into the eyes of three year olds would have caused them pain of any kind?
