a quad bike Hmm

I have no problem with his original idea of a motorbike but a quad brings up images of some prat trying to look cool and failing miserably.

On a farm etc is great but not driving on the main roads to get to work.

Am getting a red neck just thinking about it.

Ah babe, so sorry. Not even Clarkson's got a quad bike.

DoMeDon · 28/07/2011 21:04

Cling to your youth man - it's slipping thru your gnarley fingers Grin

RevoltingPeasant · 28/07/2011 21:09

So wait... he's going to be wearing River Island stuff and driving a quad bike??

You could get him a skateboard and some guyliner and it'd totally be like he was 19 again Hmm

Nicola567 · 28/07/2011 21:25

Am really not feeling any better now Hmm

Think I was secretly hoping everyone will say that they were the coolest things out!

Anyway we have a shortlist and one of them is White with yellow fire :( (hangs head in shame)

So sad, so very sad Sad

CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/07/2011 21:32

Is it even legal to ride them on public roads?

Nicola567 · 28/07/2011 21:53

Oh yes curly, perfectly legal.

You look a complete chopper but as long as you have a car lisence you can prat about as much as you want!

My garage is full of this crap. My DH has 2 quads, 2 trikes and god knows how many mini motors and crossers. I can't stand them but he thinks there great. I have to put up with these as well as 2 subarus put a stop to it now it only gets worse trust me.

neverontime · 28/07/2011 22:12

I've got images of him riding to work with a helmet and business suit, tie flapping over his shoulder as he rumbles into his works car park.
The shame! Blush

moaningmurtle · 28/07/2011 22:15

Surely he should get a Porsche for his midlife crisis :o

Nicola567 · 28/07/2011 22:17

He is in the forces but this really does not make it any better at all!!

If anything it makes it worse because I think he will be living up to some daft stereotype.

OP posts:
neverontime · 28/07/2011 22:19

My dad was in the forces and he used to travel to work on a tiny orange fold up bike, so at least your DH hasnt gone that far yet. Grin

tigana · 28/07/2011 22:24

White with yellow flames? Wowsers! That would be special.

You have my sympathy.

A quad for farting about on your own land, far away from other people who would give a damn about the noise - fine, whatever, have fun.
A quad for commuting?

mummymeister · 28/07/2011 22:25

Get him to look at what happened to ade edmonson on a quad. they are horrible things and a total menace. My kids call them worse than tricycles. we live in the country and they make a hell of a noise on or off the road. buy him a weekend away paintballing or some other manly persuit to see if this takes the idea away. sorry but only people i know who own them have ponytails, wear black leathers and wave pension books.

Nicola567 · 28/07/2011 22:26

Have actually just told him that I would have to leave him if he got one.

This is something i could not give in on.

We could possibly work through a affair or some major tragedy but I could not be married to someone that drove (is that a word?) one of these as a form of transport through choice!!

OP posts:
Nicola567 · 28/07/2011 22:29

Yes if we had our own farm/beach/island that noone would see him I would not have a problem, but driving round our tiny estate-not a chance.

I was feeling in a veryAngry &Sad after having a row with DP but this thread has cheered me up no end.

Poor you op you must not allow this to happen at any cost. You are correct he will look like a right chopper. Grin

ArseholesFlatfish · 29/07/2011 06:06

My brother went through a faze of wanting a tractor

midlife crisis?

rogersmellyonthetelly · 29/07/2011 06:42

yANBU. That would be instant divorce proceedings here.

LoveInAColdChamberOfSecrets · 29/07/2011 07:06

YANBU. Some twunt who lives round here has one and drives it up and down our little residential street all day making the most godawful noise while the residents plot James Bond esque booby traps to puncture the tyres.

IgnoringTheChildren · 29/07/2011 07:43

Tell him to get a real motorbike (not a Harley-Davidson!) or everyone will laugh at him.

alowVera · 29/07/2011 08:31

Tell him to get a bluebird, now they are sexy motorbikes. Or a yamaha, or Kawasaki, (but not a ninja, they are just hyped up).

Or possibly it he is looking a quads because he's seen the cost of doing his bike test? Your talking about £700 Inc training before he even buys a bike.
Plus would need leathers, jacket/trousers/gloves/boots/ plus helmet. Wouldn't dream of going on a bike without them.

Ps, it's not the bike that's dangerous, it's the other road users.

ZacharyQuack · 29/07/2011 10:42

It's just a pity that he doesn't feel confident enough to ride a real bike Sad
