Was I unreasonable or was she? I seriously don't think I was!

OK, I'll just state exactly what happened and you can let me know.
Monday morning and my son is starting a football summer scheme for one week, he is three and was very excited. Anyway we went up to the school where it was being taken and the guy in charge gave me a form to fill out.
I looked around and I saw a bench, around the bench on the ground there was easily thirty to forty sports bags, lunch boxes and coats, fleeces etc, you know what kids are like! Anyway I wandered over and there was a few bags on the bench, one has a rain coat sitting on top of a bag.
I really didn't think twice, I just lifted the bag and set in on the ground, rolled up the raincoat and set this on top of the bag, sat down and started to fill out the form.
Just as I had done that a fussy mother came over with her daughter and said to her daughter in a loud voice, "I didn't want your stuff on the ground", and started to flick imaginary dirt off her daughters raincoat. she then produced two pairs of trainers and socks and started to give her daughter elaborate
instructions as to which socks should be worn with which trainers.
Please note the class was for two hours and her daughter already has yet another pair of trainers on her feet! That's three pairs of trainers for a two hour class!
The trainers thing is really a side issue but am just setting the scene.
Anyway I didn't say or do anything but everyday this week this woman has glared and stared at me at leave off and pick up time and it's sort of taken away from the jolliness of the week.
Was I totally unreasonable to move the bag and raincoat?

Please note it was a lovely sunny day and the ground was not wet at all!

Over to you Smile

oops - pretentious even

razzlebathbone · 28/07/2011 15:10

YANBU. Benches are not for people's bags and stuff.

muminthemiddle · 28/07/2011 15:19

Could you not have just moved the stuff to the end of the bench? Surely the bench is big enough for one backside and one bag?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/07/2011 15:22

If there are no seats except ones covered in bags then absolutely I would move them. And if the mother looked arsey I would accidentally put the bag in a puddle. Wink

KAZAMM · 28/07/2011 15:25

YANBU and she sounds like a total idiot. It's only a bag and not as if you hid it. Don't let it take the fun out of your week though.

hocuspontas · 28/07/2011 15:27

Well I suppose if I saw someone rolling up my raincoat I might think they'd been rifling through the pockets for cash, mobile etc.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 28/07/2011 15:32

I'd be very very mildly miffed if someone put my stuff on the floor, but wouldn't spend a whole week being passive-aggressive and petty about it. I'd say something like 'Oh, let me find somewhere else for that' and take it off them, and then forget all about it.
