I can't believe how many nasty little chav's I see spitting whilst out on my travels. They just spit on the walkway, even girls and women too. It makes me feel sick when I see it. Absolutely disguting!!!

DD and I were walking round the back of some shops to the car park.Youngish (say 25-30 yo) smart suit wearing man ,smoking a ciggie spat in the garden of some retirement flats ( though that's not relevant)
Had one of those "did I say that out loud" moments as I said "Oh that's so attractive.
He gave me a w**re of a look, but hopefully he was shamed.

Unfortunately where I work it seems to be a common practice. Usually men, any age.

It's vile and makes me feel sick. When I was pregnant I used to heave and nearly throw up if I saw it. The worst offenders who make a gross snotting noise as they do it.

caramelwaffle · 27/07/2011 23:35

YADNBU !!

Indaba · 28/07/2011 00:09

Used to live in Hong Kong.

Spitting on a whole new level.

Before you spit you have to wrench your guts as though your life depends on it and bring up buckets of flem.

Happy days Smile

worraliberty · 28/07/2011 00:17

I remember older Indian men and women doing that when I was young (1970s) you could actually hear them sniffing/wrenching it up before you even saw them

I rarely see that now. It seems to be more African adults I see spitting freely and teenagers in general.

Shanghaidiva · 28/07/2011 00:58

Indaba - so true, I live in China. Blowing your nose directly onto the pavement is also a treat to observe...

AmyStake · 28/07/2011 01:12

I can only remember spitting in the street once, and that was last week when a fly flew in to my mouth!

It is so disgusting. Nothing quite like stepping over somebody's phlegm in the street.

Or putting your hand in somebody else's phlegm when they've decided to spit on top of a handrail for a laugh Angry

4pinkbabies · 28/07/2011 04:06

I also live in Shanghai. Hello Shanghaidiva! I was riding my E-Bike the other day, when an old woman flobbed and the wind blew it onto my leg as I sailed past. That was not pleasant..went straight home for a shower. That is the first time I have had a direct hit. Spitting is the cultural norm..it is considered healthy to release the bodily fluids..Babies also do not wear nappies!!

Ivortheengine8 · 28/07/2011 06:58

Thats gross Pink and Shanghai, I used to live in South Korea and it was the same. The worst part was coming back on China airways and them all using the sick bags to spit and wretch into Sad
Does it not spread TB too?

Ivortheengine8 · 28/07/2011 07:00

I'm not sure which is worse, the spitting or the putting the used bog rollin a bin on the floor beside the toilet. :(

HengshanRoad · 28/07/2011 07:04

The Shanghainese are prodigious spitters. Many a morning I've awoken to a symphony of hawking and hacking outside the window.

Andrewofgg · 28/07/2011 07:23

What is the use of banning anything if you can't enforce it?

Grockle · 28/07/2011 07:29

Vile. How did it become the norm to spit all over the pavements?

Esta3GG · 28/07/2011 07:46

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks that spitting is becoming a genuine problem. In some areas of the city near where I live there are more green groggies on the pavement than dog shit - and that is saying something.

I was also brought up to cover my mouth if I coughed or sneezed. That seems to have fallen by the wayside too. Coughs and sneezes spread diseases and all that ...

It sounds very Daily Mail to whinge about this but there is a genuine public health issue at stake. Perhasp we need to go back to "No spitting" signs if people are too fucking thick to realise how vile it is. Most people don't realise that it is actually a contravention of some bylaws. I'd love to see some little scrote nicked for it.

Meglet · 28/07/2011 08:06

Yanbu.

Al0uiseG · 28/07/2011 08:14

Yanbu, who are these filthy scrotes who think we want to see their bodily fluids all over the pavement. I always say something if I see it, if my camera phone was faster I'd like to be able to photograph the scrote, the evidence and have them whipped arrested, locked up briefly and fined.

Al0uiseG · 28/07/2011 08:16

I actually cannot bear to see or hear people, usually old men, blowing their nose in public, especially in a restaurant. It's so revolting to pull out a manky handkerchief and brandish it around.

SeldomSeenCake · 28/07/2011 08:19

YADNBU in any way!!

spitting in public absolutely turns my stomach!! it is a major way that bacteria is spread...EnvyAngry
i dont understand the need for it...i have never had so much saliva in my mouth that i would have drowned if i didnt spit it out!! it is perfectly safe and preferable to swallow it...
