To think that on the day of her funeral people could lay off with sick jokes?

Seriously? A lot of jokes on FB about Amy Winehouse atm with others posting likes or "Pinching" underneath.

How can people look at the photos of her devastated parents and make crass silly jokes about her?

Not one of us know what out children are going to grow up to be and one day it could be one of us burying our child and I really hope noone will be sick enough to joke about it then.

The jokes are not going to hurt Amy but try and imagine her parents reading them not really fair is it?

known amy , sorry for typo

SauvignonBlanche · 26/07/2011 19:00

I didn't know Amy Whitehouse or any member of her family so as long as I wasn't in the company of anyone who does, I don't see a problem.

OrangeHat · 26/07/2011 19:02

What do you mean? People posting jokes about her online have no way of knowing who is reading. Many facebook profiles aren't private, and news websites can certainly be read by anyone.

pippitysqueakity · 26/07/2011 19:08

Everlong, just wanted to say, my sorrow for your loss.

DouglasPouch · 26/07/2011 19:39

I didn't say I was distressed over her death Hmm. I do feel slighty distressed after seeing a photo of her mothers face and wondering how she would feel if she came across some of these jokes about her dd.

I have buried my own dd and I would have been beyond hurt if someone had posted some sick jokes about her online.

I am especially upset that some of these jokes have come from parents - I don't see how one parent could do that to another no matter if the person is famous or not.

A bit of compassion and thought can go a long way. S'all.

everlong Sad I'm sorry for your loss.

I think it's awful and have seen some myself but just ignore them.

I have sadly read too many posts on here of MNers who have lost spouses, children and immediate family members and work in SN school so have had a lot of contact with parents who have expectedly and unexpectedly had a child pass away. I don't see any humour in people's grief.

I like remember the funny things the person who's passed has said or done - imo/ ime that humour is acceptable and the typem of humour that should be shared. (although not on FB)

Thruaglassdarkly · 26/07/2011 20:20

everloong and douglas - so sorry for your terrible losses.

YANBU - it's not remotely funny to joke about these things. I've been thinking about her parents a lot too and can only imagine what they must be going through. Whilst they're not reading FB/Mumsnet etc today (I doubt), they still could hear of these jokes circulating later on.

RainboweBrite · 26/07/2011 20:40

OP, hear, hear! Some people have posted some truly shocking things. I find it very upsetting that so many people can be so cruel and insensitive.

Hulababy · 26/07/2011 20:43

There are definitely possibilities that people on here know her or her family. Her good friend of mine worked with her close relatives until very recently, so def a possibility.

revolutionscoop · 26/07/2011 20:50

Yes, a friend of mine knew her.

Mandy2003 · 26/07/2011 21:06

I don't like facebook anyway. The sooner it dies off the better IMO.

DouglasPouch · 26/07/2011 21:22

Mandy, this is not just facebook it is all over the net and going around in texts and emails too.

No we dont know her personally.

But some of us have lost our children and seeing people making crass remarks about another parent's loss is hurtful and frankly vile.
I am SICK of the way this poor girl's death is being used by others to show how morally upstanding they are e.g. the stupid bloody remarks about reserving their sympathy for service personnel/oslo victims/famine victims etc.

Gallows humour is supposed to be a way of releasing tension for those involved in stressful circumstances. These people making vile remarks on FB do not fall into this catagory do they?
