Not really an AIBU but just wanted to know what you all thought about this? Baby is due soon, will be around 2.5 ? 3 months old when it?s SIL?s birthday party. Kids will be attending. Baby will be coming with us. DH and I have joke bickers (!) about how it will be his turn to drive when baby arrives so mummy can have a glass of wine or 2! He suggests we get a taxi to events like I?ve just mentioned and take car seat for baby. Neither of us will get drunk but would like a few which would take us over the limit ? are we being unreasonable and should one of us drive and not drink at all or is it ok to put a baby in a carseat in a taxi and have a few drinks?

This may not be an issue if I can?t express as I plan to bf ? but just wondered if it was acceptable or frowned upon? If it makes a difference ? it would be a 10 minute journey.

One of you has to not bloody drink so s/he can bloody drive - which part of that is confusing you?

squeakytoy · 26/07/2011 17:44

Being over the limit for driving does not make most people incapably drunk, it just means that they have had more than the legal limit allowed to drive. It certainly doesnt mean that they would be unable to look after their child after 3 glasses of wine or two pints of beer.

I was often to be seen wih a glass of wine on one hand and d breastfeeding inthe othe arm.

It takes an hour for it to get into your system as well.

But I am not a big drinker nyway and dh and I always make sure one of us is sober at all times jus in case one o he kds is ill etc. No problem for you both to have a couple of glasses though.

Can I say if you've been abstinent during pregnancy theN alcohol will have a greater effect on you when you start drinking again

Thanks for all the advice - it seems that a couple of drinks and getting a taxi home isn't badly thought of at all :)

Wouldn't dream of having a couple of glasses of wine and then driving - especially with a baby! Can Andrewofgg not read???
