to think that "upcycling vintage fabric"

basically means "buying stuff in the charity shop and turning it into something else"??

I just got a bright pink double sheet, and will be using it to line a toddler dress. It's a gorgeous colour, and far less faff to trawl the 4-5 local charity shops than faff into town to get to the proper fabric shop (which I also use). I'm planning on selling the dress as I'm trying to start my own business.

Having done my market research browsed lots of websites (not on here) lots of brands claim to be eco-friendly because they upcycle vintage fabric. AIBU to think I'm doing the same?

I probably am, there's most likely a whole ungooglable source of eco-friendly, biodiversely farmed, herbally dyed in pretty colours, fairly traded, organic cotton/hemp/bamboo at reasonable prices that I simply can't find Hmm

PG I work in care, so must be here whether there's work needs doing or not - currently have roast pork in the oven and both Dudes are listening to music and dozing. Crochet keeps me sane!

Adverse i need pics

I have a couple of corduroy skirts which will become kids frocks. Cord is so expensive, but a £4 skirt should make 2 £15 frocks Grin

I can only crochet granny squares, the rest is entirely too confusing! I can knit though, but tend not to these days as my wrists don't get on too well with it.

Really? I find Grannies more confusing because you have to keep switching stitches. Bootees and hats - chain 2, x amount of whatever stitch in 2nd chain from hook, 2 whatever stitches in each stitch around, (2 stitches in next, 1 in the one after) around, increase amount of stitches between the doubles by 1 stitch per round until it's big enough, then keep going in rows until it's long enough.

Wanna see a pic of my bootees?

Karstan perhaps you are trans-cycling.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 24/07/2011 22:11

I can only crochet what I am physically shown, grannies are a doodle because it's one stitch aaaaall the way round. Feel free to share and show off:)

is it not remaking, or remodelling? Or are they americanisms Blush
Whatever it is it's cool & I wish I could do it. YANBU

Inspired by the thread about £45 uggs for babies

The pink sheet lined a 2nd dress like this one

Now I just have to learn how to sell the bloody things!

Your version of the Ugg boots is better.

Perhaps you could call them Hug Boots and sell them for a lot less than £45. That should help you get started. Good luck Smile

purplepidjin · 24/07/2011 22:57

I just listed them on folksy for £7. There's people on there selling crochet bootees for £16. £16!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock I don't spend that on stuff for me!
