AIBU to have got mad at the door-to-door charity collector?

It's not the fact they knocked at the door asking for money that's annoyed me. But seriously is there any need to go ringing peoples doorbells at 7:30pm on a Friday night? My 9mo DS had just gone to bed and she woke him up. Grrrr, winds me up. If I wanted to donate money to charity I would! I certainly wouldn't go knocking on somebodys door in the evening. Rant over!

YABU - 7.30 isn't late, and they weren't to know you'd just put your little one to bed.

hairfullofsnakes · 22/07/2011 21:01

Bloody hell bluddy! Chillax! Op yanbu people have the right to be uninterrupted in their own homes especially after a certain time - although I do agree with kladakka about the British legion - they can bother me anytime as I have the utmost respect for them.

Flowerista · 22/07/2011 21:09

Imagine though if the caller was your sister or your friend having to do a wearisome, thankless job and they knocked on a door at 7.30 and the householder did a nutty...

Indaba · 22/07/2011 21:17

Ok, so lets me get this straight..........

..........there are people dead, starving, drought stricken..

.......you are in your cosy house, someone is asking for a bit of cash to save some ones life and you are a bit p**ed off cos they disturbed "Britains Got Talent"...........

yes, it is mild-ley inconvenient...but really...you have the option to say no thanks.....?!

yabu

7.30 isn't really late at all

flumposie · 22/07/2011 22:14

Completely agree with you on this - we have a sign on our door and people still knock. I resent people disturbing me in my home of an evening. Last charity we had at the door would not take no for an answer even though we explained that we already gave to a similar charity, they wanted us to give £5 a week and after taking a massive pay cut this year we are simply unable to do this. If i want to donate to a charity, change my gas provider etc i will take the time to do it myself and expect to not be bothered on my doorstep.

Eaglebird · 22/07/2011 22:33

OP I feel your pain.
I could rant all night about charity collectors / salespeople from cable TV firms / blokes selling fish / salespeople from utility companies etc / religious people trying to convert me.

Instead I turn the volume down on the doorbell unit if I don't want DS to be disturbed, and don't bother answering the door.

Bunbaker · 23/07/2011 14:44

"7.30 is hardly late at night though, and unless she has psychic powers how would she know you had a 9mo?

If you dont want people ringing your doorbell can I suggest you either take the batteries out or stick a notice on the door to ask people to not knock."

I agree. Calling before 6pm isn't usually productive because most people aren't back from work.

I collect for Christian Aid once a year. I have no problem with people not wanting to give - after all most people can only give so much and often have their favourite charities, but I would feel a little Shock if someone gave me a mouthful of abuse for knocking at their door. I only knock once BTW because I know from reading on mumsnet that there are an awful lot of miserable and unsociable people who never answer their door.

MindtheGappp · 23/07/2011 14:48

7.30pm isn't late.

TidyDancer · 23/07/2011 14:49

YABU. 7:30 is not late, and there is no need to go mad at someone just for knocking on your door. A polite 'no' next time will suffice.

You don't sound very nice.

HTH.

proudfoot · 23/07/2011 14:50

YABU

7:30 is not late. They will be going round in the evening to catch people home from work.

They are just doing their jobs.

If it bothers you, deactivate door bell once your DC is in bed.

valiumredhead · 23/07/2011 15:20

7.30 is hardly late - what an over reaction!
