To think Oxfam should have given me the book for free

Yesterday DD selected some books to donate to the Oxfam bookshop. Come bedtime we realised that I had accidently given away a book that she wanted to keep. So we went to the shop to retrieve it, explained the situation to the volunteer who promtly charged me £2 to get back the book we'd just donated Shock

AIBU to think they should have given a little girl her book back for free?

I wouldn't have expected to pay for it back, tbh and in the circs (ie it was clear you were telling the truth cos there are some right liars out there as well who target charity shops for 'money back refunds' etc) I'd have expected a 'gesture of goodwill'
in future, I'd give somewhere else

Thing is, Oxfam isn't a charity that I would ever give money to as, like Twofalls says, they squander such large amounts of money (and will no doubt squander my £2 Smile). We'd donated the books because they were a good read and we wanted someone else to enjoy them.

I handed the money over without a quibble but thought they were a bit mean.

lockets - have you never read Dogger?
