to tell Sky to fuck off and go to BT?

ive had everything with sky for some time now - broadband, tv and phone.

the broadband wont connect throughout the whole house - the main phone socket it right by the front door and so i cannot plug the router into it without it being a hazard for all the wires etc, its plugged in in the lounge

before we were with orange and never had a problem with connectivity.

for months now i have had the problem that the internet wont connect in certain spots in the house
DS is a computer programmer and needs the net. it wont connect in his bedroom.

ive rung several times, always talk to some goober who has no idea what they are talking about - DS runs rings around them because he does know what he is talking about...

so today i tried for one final time to get them to send another router. they refused.
so i asked if its worth losing £70 month phone bill plus the tenner broadband....

apparently it is. they will not send another router. DS has said he could buy one and hack in....(sky apparently password protect their routers where as BT give you the user name and password, so if you need to, you can get another router)...but cannot be arsed.

so im off to BT....does anyone have anything to tell me about them? are they good? worth it? does the internet work through out the house?

fuck Sky i say! roll on Virgin getting their cable out here....they can stick their tv then aswell!

Personally I like BEThere

I've been with them for nearly 5 years and I wouldn't move at all. I have not once had a snottogram about my downloads even though I download a LOT. I reckon I easily do 100GB a month.

When I call them, even though their helpdesk is in Bulgaria, crucially they are staffed by qualified/experienced people so no scripts asking me to reboot etc. Instead they zoom straight into the source of the problem instead of treating me like an idiot.

in 7 years we never had a problem with sky or its services until about 4 months ago they where upgrading the phone line to improve the broadband service!! my phone line went dead sky told me it would take 48 hours to resolve the problem and they would phone me to confirm it was resolved
I was told that every 48 hours for the next 3 weeks once they even tried to tell me they had phoned my husband on a phone number that he hadnt used for 5 years and he confirmed the fault was fixed and the fault had been closed for 2 weeks!!! I wanted to know who they spoke to and how they knew our passwords lol
after 3 weeks we where told it was a problem with equipment at the exchange and they had to wait 72 hours for it to be fixed lmao that was the same for 2 more weeks until I lost it and cancelled everything Sky lost my £97.50 a month custom and I went with virgin who make me inceredably happy :D I lost connection for about 48 hours they have refunded my next 2 payments for BB as compensation I didnt even have to ask for it!! sky Ive been waiting for a refund for the last 6 weeks phone and BB charges and my mobile phone bill charges that amount to £120 for the past 5 weeks I bet Ill still be waiting in 5 weeks time:D

My experience with BT has been good. When we had a problem they sent us a new router no issues. Their call centre people are helpful too. My friend has Sky and they try and bleed every penny from you.

microserf · 22/07/2011 10:58

be careful what you wish for with Virgin!

i am with them, and their call centres are unbelievably shit. i HATE calling virgin. i have spent way too many hours arguing with their useless staff.

I must be one of the lucky ones - been with BT for years and had no problems at all - yes they do hike the prices but I make sure I renew my contract every year/18 months and bargain.

I might think differently if we were having lots of problems - but can only speak as I find. The only time I've had to contact their technical support was at the begining because I didn't know what I was doing, but they quickly sorted me out without making me feel stupid.

I can't be bothered changing at the minute, but I have heard good things about plusnet and a friend changed to 02 and hasn't had any cause to be unhappy.

niceguy - we didnt have this problem with Orange though - surely if it was my walls (thick? ha ha ha....no, they arent thick unfortunately for me) then we would have had the same problem with Orange?

DS has apparently done all he can do to sort problem but i will show him your earlier post and see if he has tried all the above.

We've been with BT for two years. The internet is great, very fast. But the phone cuts out all the time during calls and their customer service is awful! We had some problems connecting and it took months for it to be resolved. Then we wanted to change the name on our account about three months ago, we called and called, spoke to lots of different people and it's STILL not sorted. I would say they're alright, just as long as nothing goes wrong!
