it lingers for hours and gets in the soft furnishings.

BigDog is now clean but still stinks.

Wet smelly dog is fine, if it's your own beloved wet smelly dog. Like your own baby's nappy - it just doesn't bother you. I will concur though, that a dog who has rolled in fox poo needs to be in solitary confinement for a least three days. It's utterly vile.

strawberrybonbon · 22/07/2011 19:31

Badger poo on the dog is not very pleasant either. Why do dogs feel they have to roll in disgusting things, I wonder? Anyway, a top tip that was given to me, is if you have shampooed the dog and it still smells of fox/badger, cover the area in tomato ketchup rub it in and then rinse it out. Don't know why this works, but it does!

Atkins breath. It smells like something burrowed up your arse and dies in your mouth.

Nagini · 22/07/2011 19:34

died Blush

They LOVE the smelly poo. To them it's like designer aftershave. My dog looks so proud of himself when he wreaks of something else's shit, and he looks really quite hurt and bewildered when he is dragged into the garden for a hose down, and then shunned for the rest of the evening.

TinFairy · 22/07/2011 19:36

Decomposing hedgehog beats fox poo hands down. I still heave at the thought of it.

And I live with a Newfoundland. Wet is their only state of being. You get used to it.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 22/07/2011 19:38

I'm lucky enough to be owned by a dog that doesnt roll in fox poo, or any other sort of poo for that matter!
She always smells lovely like the mandarin and whatchamacallit herbal essences shampoo that I wash her with. Blush

FellatioNelson · 22/07/2011 19:39

I suspect I may be sporting Atkins breath righ now. Blush Luckily, I am too busy to set foot out of the house or go within 6 feet of another human in a social capacity at the moment, so I don't care.

Glitterknickaz · 22/07/2011 19:41

YABU
Vomit and rancid milk is worse. Although wet dog is baaaad.

TheBlackPanther · 22/07/2011 19:49

Ill never forget the time i had a dead mouse under the sofa that my cat brought in (must have been there a day or 2 unnoticed) and when i wheeled the sofa out of the way i squished its little body (not on purpose) the gasses from it absolutely stunk our living room out for a minuet or two.
Who would have thought a little thing like that would create such a smell.

Al0uiseG · 22/07/2011 19:54

Fellatio! (Hijack) are you ok? I've been thinking about you and mr Nelson all day.

FellatioNelson · 22/07/2011 19:56

I'm fine! Knackered and a bit dazed. I'll PM you. (don't worry everyone, i'm absolutely fine - just very very stressed and busy at the moment.)

neveradullmomentinparadise · 22/07/2011 20:58

Wet dog is fine - signifies healthy animal. Not nice are rotting hamster (only found when brie-like), dying rats after rat-killer has been, flowers left too long in vase, vomit of any kind, French camembert, my husband's "I'd leave it a minute" bathroom visits, dead baby birds that my DD1 likes to keep in boxes, certain old peoples' homes (charming warm aroma of overcooked sprouts and dried urine), coffee breath. I'm sure I could come up with some more......Wink

sleepindogz · 22/07/2011 20:59

Fox poo.

noooooooooooooooooooooooo

especially in a long haired dog

Nagini · 22/07/2011 21:01

only one minute, never ? Envy In our house it's 10 on a Sunday morning, and that's with the window open.

Popbiscuit · 22/07/2011 21:01

How about this...your dog rolls in decomposing SKUNK. It's like a horror film in your nose.

neveradullmomentinparadise · 22/07/2011 21:02

...I've been known to cut out chunks of my dog's hair after a fox-poo-rolling episode. I've also done this to my dog on finding his own poo tangled in his tail. Is that cruel? (He is very long haired so it's not that noticeable)

Rhinestone · 22/07/2011 21:03

I also like the smell of wet dog. Good job really!

jeckadeck · 22/07/2011 21:04

you clearly have never lived in an area with skunks.... Another surprisingly revolting smell is that emitted by a brewery, if anyone's ever lived within spitting distance of one.

peeriebear · 22/07/2011 21:10

When I was pregnant with DD1 (my first!) I looked after my friend's dog for a weekend. She rolled in hedgehog poo :( I had to shampoo her in the garden using a big saucepan and the baby shampoo I had been thoughtfully gifted, whilst trying to keep my huge bump out of the way of the stench. Bloody Labs.

My own dog has since rolled in fox poo, then gone back for more just to rub it in ,hardy har. Fricking rancid. I thank people for the ketchup tip for future reference. :)

MrsGypsy · 22/07/2011 21:13

My dog loves duck poo. The wetter and squishier the better. And dead fish. Last time he rolled in duck poo I washed him in baby shampoo, but he escaped and went straight back out and rolled in the duck poo again. Just goes to show, you can take the poo out of the dog, but you can't take the dog out of the poo....... Grin He's not bad when wet, I think like a pp said - when it's your own it's all right - it's the other bloody dog that smells all damp and manky....

sleepindogz · 22/07/2011 21:14

oh yes, worked in one once, was horrible smell

GeraldineAubergine · 22/07/2011 21:17

I don't mind the smell of wet dog, I'm pretty immune to bad smells as I'm a nurse. Compared to some things dog smell is pretty perfumed :)

neveradullmomentinparadise · 22/07/2011 21:28

Just got my carpets shampooed, and whilst damp they smelt just like wet dog......I found it really disconcerting and a bit disappointing, even though it's obvious a wool carpet would smell like that. I keep getting down on all fours to check the smell...if anyone caught me doing it.....Grin
