after 6 yrs of being a sahm, i got a little job. just working 1 shift a week, but im happy with it, so is oh. fits in with kids etc. i got my first pay check today. oh came in from work and i showed him and he was really chuffed for me. its been a great confidence boost for me, and has started to give me back a bit of me. while we were chatting about how i would spend my riches( yeah right) a knock at the door, one of the kids let in ohs mate. he says, why are you 2 looking so chuffed. oh said to him clueless just got her first pay check, were thinking of what we can treat ourselves to. so the mate says oh what job did you get? i tell him and he says.
thats not a real job, i wouldnt work for what you must be earning, whats the point? you might aswell keep on staying home doing nothing.
i was fuming. oh was fuming. oh tells him to leave and that he wont be going down the pub with him now as previously planned. as he was acting like a twat.
now im super pissed off and oh has backed me totally and pissed of the
wanker mate.
is it so wrong to be happy with myself? its only a tiny bit of money, but its something. and i feel good about it.

superjobee · 21/07/2011 20:03

ah well done and congrats! getting your first job post baby and sahm-ing is hard enought without twatty mctwatterson putting you down for it glad your OH stood up for you well done him and you for getting a good'un Grin enjoy spending your very own paycheck!

NadiaWadia · 21/07/2011 20:41

And you were not staying at home 'doing nothing'. What an idiot he is!

Seems that some men these days expect the mother of their children to bring in a full time wage as well as doing most of the childcare and housework, however young the child/ren are. I feel sorry for his DP (if he has one!)

clueless1 · 22/07/2011 08:08

unfortunatly he does have a dp and a child. but the child has always been looked after by grandparents so they can both work ft and manage to do everythign they want, holidays, nights out etc. and he cant see that not everyone has that luxury. so for the yrs we have been saying that i dont work so the children are with a family member in the family home instead of us paying for childcare,( his is free) which costs a forutne. he could never understand it.

Congrats I remember feeling the same! Isn't about how much you earn as you know it's about how it makes you feel about yourself, your oh sounds like a good man, his mates a bit of an arse!

OpinionatedPlusSprogs · 22/07/2011 08:47

Even if you get paid to cartwheel naked through your local shopping centre it is still a proper job. You do stuff for money, it's a proper job. What a fucking moron.

TiaMariaandDietCoke · 22/07/2011 09:01

Grin where do you apply for the cartwheeling jobs Opinionated? They could have me doing that near closing time to clear the place out! Grin

Congrats on the job clueless - and on your lovely DH - has others have said, its so nice to hear about a DP being supportive! Hope the 'friend' has realised with a plonker he was, but I doubt it!

DooinMeCleanin · 22/07/2011 09:06

It's people like that who always end up with nothing when things go wrong. I have a friend like that. She can't possibly take a customer service job or work as a cleaner or in a fast food place. She'd be embarrassed. Me, otoh, if it pays, it's work and it's worth it.

She has been unemployed for 10 years now. I have rarely been out of a job. I know which one I'd find embarrassing.

Well done Op. Enjoy your treat and good luck getting on with the rest of your job.

AnonymousBird · 22/07/2011 09:06

Good for you, I am soooooo hoping to be in your position later this year, I'd be utterly delighted as well.

The "mate" is an arse. Your OH responded brilliantly!

YANBU. Congratulations. Enjoy the meal and the hair do Envy and Smile at the same time!
