I mean - it's a staple easy lunch right? He will not eat bread or toast, with anything - cheese, jam, ham etcetc...............WHY??? I know I could make him something else but with 2 other kids ( he is the oldest - 8 ) he is being a pain and don't want to start making a different lunch for them all....

Dd1 has wraps in her lunch box, she will eat a sandwich but is very fussy (bread has to be very sorf and contain the correct cheese).

AuntiePickleBottom · 19/07/2011 19:49

i am planning to start ds on pack lunches at school come september...apart from wraps ect what else do you put in a lunch box

stayathomegardener · 19/07/2011 20:01

DD has never eaten sandwiches detests them, she will however eat bread, separate hard boiled egg and separate cherry tomatoes-not touching.Hmm Same scenario with other fillings-pile of tuna ,stack of cucumber, two slices of bread.Madness, shes 12 btw

Dd1 has:
A wrap
babybel
yoghurt
cake (home made or shop bought)
Fruit (pot of berries as she wont eat apples ect..).

Dd2 has:
A sandwich (ham or cheese)
Mini savory egg
yoghurt
cake
carrot sticks, banana or raisins (depending on what we have).

Have also put in pizza, mini sausages and mini cheddars in the past but i try and keep it the same each day (as both dd's like it that way) Smile.

Dd eats plain bread with nothing on it, including dh's home made soda bread, but until recently would only eat a peanut butter sandwich - now she will eat buttered soda bread with a slice of cheese beside it. She wouldn't eat sandwiches at a party usually but she is getting more tolerant now she is ten. Dd has never been keen on butter.

I get bored with bread, but we have started using those Warburtons Sandwich thins.. they are very thin, but hold the filling in perfectly... and are idea for someone who doesnt want or doesnt like a lot of bread.. they are great toasted too.

Empusa · 19/07/2011 20:28

I hate sandwiches too.

Rolls on the other hand, or pita bread, or even french stick.. I used to have crackers for lunch at school.

I dislike sliced bread though, always have done.

Growing up my brother would refuse to eat crusts, and I'd refuse to eat the middle of the bread.

My poor mum!!

WishIWasRimaHorton · 19/07/2011 20:51

DS didn't touch sandwiches until about a year ago (is now 5 and eats them happily). DD is 2 and won't touch bread. Will sometimes eat it toasted but not always

They both love pitta bread (toasted) and always have. They will both eat a whole large pitta bread each...

It is a pain at parties for DD as she won't eat pizza either. Sigh.... But she will eat her bodyweight in crisps, so she doesn't starve!

To not like sandwiches is not unreasonable but if he is fussy with other stuff as well, you need to tackle the whole problem. How about giving him his bread buttered or not and ham and cheese separately on the same plate then leave him to get on with it.

thank you for all the replies.
so it seems that many of you and your kids aren't that into sarnies.
packed lunches are a big problem and i spend a fortune on hot lunch and he really only nibbles at it. i am going to try and just do the hot lunch once a week and for the rest of the days , make a lunch and let him get on with it. he is very fussy, but sometimes he says he does not like something but it really means it MAY not be his favorite thing in the world and would rather have something else.....
