what makes someone a Chav? How do you know you are not one?

45% Grin. I have never set foot in a waitrose and did a shop in iceland yesterday, surprised it's not higher.

yellowraincoat · 20/11/2011 20:41

35%

I hate the word "chav", people are people. I know a doctor who tucks his trousers into his socks, so.

twinklytroll · 20/11/2011 20:42

I often go rambling with lots of middle class types , we often tuck our socks into our trousers.

mumdad2kidsandadog · 21/11/2011 09:28

twinklytroll I read that as I often go gambling with lots of middle class types and was wondering why they would need to tuck their socks in for that!
:)

porcamiseria · 21/11/2011 09:33

not sure what I hate more, ratty pasty fat chavs or the boden-phil and teds using middle classes that move house so they can get archie into the local church primary

i fucking hate everyone

and this thread is about, oooh ten years old?

Pendeen · 21/11/2011 09:39

"... laminate flooring ..."

Absolutely.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/11/2011 10:20

Well, I have laminate flooring and cubic zirconia earrings and have been known to frequent Iceland, so am guessing that my chav rating would be significant. Those trackies look really comfy...

I always thought, in the past, that chav was when people (who couldn't really afford it) spent loads of money on 'posh' brands (like Burberry, back in the day) but still looked 'cheap'.

It doesn't mean working class - the word has evolved to describe an attitude as well as a 'look' described by Urban Dictionary. Who writes that btw and do they not have access to spell/grammar check?

That's what I learnt at college when I did health and social care.

I got 45%, higher than 81% of my peers. I was quite proud of myself actually, but then I am from a council estate. As such, I think it's ok for me to abuse chavs or whatever you want to call them, but I reserve the right to get arsey whenever anyone even slightly posher than me does it.

Someone mentioned matted birdsnest hair. I rather thought this was de rigeur for most teenage girls now? I've seen posh looking female students do it, as well as council estate chicas. Personally, it makes me feel special: thousands of women spending 10 minutes with hairspray to achieve a look that I can rock as soon as I get out of bed.

FlangelinaBallerina · 21/11/2011 10:46

Oh, and my mum and dad have got both a brown leather sofa and more books than I've ever seen in any other home!
