to try minimise scarring

hi my little one who is only 3, has just had an emergency operation to remove an abscess that suddenly developed under a chicken pox on her tummy, (be warned chicken pox is not harmless)it was necessary as iv antibiotics doesnt always clear collection of pus in small children, anyhow she is home and recovering well thank God. , have yet to remove dressings and see scar and know time needed to heal but being vain on her behalf can i have advice on treatments and ointments etc to reduce scarring, and help healing in the long term, thanks

Urm I used bio oil on my appendix scar. I'm not sure if it's appropriate for childrens' skin though, you'd have to ask a pharmacist...

hiya, not sure if you've started a new thread yet, but this stuff worked very well at reducing a scar I have. As a child I'm sure her scar will heal much better than an adults anyway. Their skin deals with these things much better than saggy old adult skin :o

In the states you can buy something called Neosporin. It's triple antibiotic ointment. They sell it in the dollar stores, even. Every cut I every had as a kid was neosporin'd and it reduced scarring as well.
Maybe you could get some prescribed?

vitamin e is good for reducing scarring. you can buy the capsules and just cut open and apply

Elastoplast make silicon sheets that you can stick onto scars to reduce their appearance. You can buy it in boots - it costs about £20 per packet.

cica care! you need cica care. It's a silicon sheet, but its the best. You can buy it, or get it on perscription. I've been using it over the last few weeks and it is a bit of a faff due to the amount of time you need to keep it on, it has worked amazingly well.

Mepiform, on prescription. It's a silicon sheet, which is excellent for scars, and keeps them hydrated. Netter than cicacare as it is very thin and is a beige colour so blends in better.

Better not netter obviously!

Oh, and it's much more adherent, so can keep on 24/7.

silicon sheets are the business for scars really aren't they? So much better than messing about with oils.

kelo cote is like a silicone sheet you spray on. Much better, no cutting to size. But you must stick with it and be religious about applying it to keep the silicone constantly in contact with the skin.
