...dark brown, well stewed and sugarless. Someone made me a cuppa today and I asked for 'builder's tea' and she brought me a mug of sweet gnat's piss a weak and milky brew with three sugars. AIBU to think she was totally wrong in her interpretation?

She insists she is right about this, so thought I'd bring it to the MN jury.

When I had builders in many years ago, I asked them how they liked their tea and was told strong with milk and 2 sugars, except for one chap took 4 sugars .

Don’t revive an old thread which is irrelevant to your post!

blackteasplease · 05/06/2018 00:58

When people say builders' tea they definitely mean dark brown colour. It means really strong basically.

Alot of builders probably do have sugar too but I don't think it's part of the definition or what makes it builders. I think that's jusr about the strength.

blackteasplease · 05/06/2018 00:58

Oh fucking Zombie thread!

Eliza9917 · 05/06/2018 02:14

I work in construction and tea should have the tea bag left in, after a squeeze, and 2-4 teaspoons of milk and 2-3 sugars. Should also come with chocolate hobnobs as well.

Fact.

AjasLipstick · 05/06/2018 02:33

Asking for something which doesn't actually exist as a definite thing is ridiculous...as is the term "builder's tea" which for some reason, I find horribly patronising.

BonnieF · 05/06/2018 11:04

The whole point of builder’s tea is that it’s very strong and very sweet to provide a pick-me-up to hard-working builders!

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 05/06/2018 11:08

It should be treacle coloured due to excessive brewing but somehow also have a lot of milk, and at least 4 sugars.

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/06/2018 11:14

Yesterday at Headingley cricket, we sat behind a bloke with disgusting bb, ... surely men know if they're showing their gluteal cleft almost down to analyse verge, should be illegal, what can be done You should lob peanuts at it and see how many hits you score.

UrgentScurryfunge · 05/06/2018 11:17

I doubt OP cares anymore, but builder's tea definitely doesn't involve non-dairy substitutes!

They only try it once out of curiosity. Grin

(TBH we're doing well if the teabags and coffee aren't due for their annual replacement!)

ToadOfSadness · 05/06/2018 11:21

Builders tea should be dark and with a minimum of 2 sugars and a plate of biscuits on the side.

easyandy101 · 05/06/2018 11:21

Strong/stewed

Alot of milk

Multiple sugars

FASH84 · 05/06/2018 11:22

Very strong tea, fair splash of milk, multiple sugars. I usually ask for builder's tea no sugar

ToadOfSadness · 05/06/2018 11:23

Agree with not reviving a zombie thread with an unrelated post but do like builders tea.
