talking to a mate the other day, asked if she and her boy wanted to come to the pictures to see tin tin the movie which looks really good.

She said no thanks that looks boring and I don't like cartoons, she said she only takes him to films they both like so couple weeks back she took him to see to fast to furious.

I do think because of this he ends up seeing films that are not really appropriate fro him and often have to vet the DVDs when my son goes round

I just don't get it most of the films I take my kids to see are boring but I am not going for myself I taking THEM to the pictures

I just find it a little selfish being a parent it sitting through stuff when really you would rather be watching some action film with steamy sex with my girly fiends

I love kids films! I enjoyed going with my children. Your friend sounds very selfish and should be encouraging her child to see kids films.

I've sat through some shit in my time but the kids have loved it and that's the idea of taking them to the cinema...so they enjoy it

Equally, I've taken them to films I hated the look of and ended up loving them.

Well I only take my children to films I'm willing to watch as well, but then I did make my 15 year old DS go and see tangled...

Depends on the ages. Dd is 11 now and has had sex education so could see more 12A's that I wouldn't take her 8 year old brother too. We either go as a couple or as a family. It just depends on the film. For example Mamma Mia concerned me so I went to see it first and with Eclipse last year. I'll be doing the same with breaking dawn.

YANBU. I sat through Animals United with dd (utter shite) and dh had the pleasure of viewing Tangled with her (he quite liked it).
Like you say - it's not for you it's for them. If I didn't have kids I probably wouldn't go to the swings, soft play, toddler groups etc either.

Heh, I sat down dutifully to watch Eclipse yesterday with my son with a very hangdog expression on my face, and ended up getting rather more involved that I thought I would when I started muttering about the madness of turning down the werewolf for the pasty faced, shiny one.
