Why aren't these hats sold in UK?

hat

Is there something unsafe about the ties? Many babies in Germany wear this type of hat until they are at least 12 months every time they go outside. Anybody know?

I had sunhats with ties on for DS as well. From H&M I think.

Long rainproof coat for the person who was looking for one upthread. Smile

DaisySteiner · 16/07/2011 19:15

As others have said you can get them in this country. One of my closest friends used them on her last baby - I love her and her baby dearly, but IMHO he did look 'orrible in it - it reminded me of something a peasant from the middle ages would wear!

Longtalljosie · 16/07/2011 19:20

They sell them at Polarn O Pyret

oldraver · 16/07/2011 19:26

I will also say that the 'ties' that were banned as dangerous were the drawerstrings around the NECK. They were often on coats and I have a few matinee jackets from DS2 that still have ribbons around the neck.

Most people nowadays would never of seen these, so I reckon the Mothercare lot have got confused

Thank you AgonyBeetle Very kind of you to post link. I had considered that one actually but dd is 8yrs and (my post wasn't clear) I'm actually looking for a warm winter padded coat for this winter (trying to find one last winter was a nightmare). They were all brown and mauve and dd has to have navy blue or dark grey. Will obviously have to try my luck when new season's stuff comes in ... thanks though!!

LongTallJ I love P O P! (Shame they don't deliver here)

Deliak Pom pom? That baby looks like it has a second head ...

I got one from Debenhams for dd last year, stillchuckingit. It was specific school uniform coat iyswim, though dd didn't go to that school. It is pretty good. I'll see if I can find it.

I was born in Germany, in the late spring and my mum says that the German mums would have huge quilts on top of the babies in the cot and wrap them up, regardless of the weather. Strangers used to come up to her and tell her to wrap me up in August!

I seen a baby at the supermarket the other day with a hat like the op's link and I looked and wished I had them when DS1 was a tiny.
Even now at 1 I'd like to find more sun hats with chin straps for him because he likes playing outside but keep throwing his hat off.

OK, it was John Lewis, and it is now called a Sue coat here ; it's jolly warm and was great in all that snow last year. In fact, I want one for me, but they don't do anything like it in my size.

I happen to like the medieval look - it can be extremely cute and practical!

Re coats, in my extensive experience, I think it's not possible to have long, warm and waterproof all in one package.

You can have long and warm (puffa coats, boden etc)
long and waterproof (muddy puddles etc)
warm and waterproof (most jackets from school uniform shops or walking shops)

but not all three at once, or not that I've ever found. But actually, the times when it's really cold and raining are few and far between -- I'd get a warm coat and a separate waterproof (the muddy puddles originals jacket come in navy and are quite long) and on those rare occasions when it's freezing cold and sluicing down you can put the waterproof on over the coat. Also by separating them out you can still wear the waterproof when it's warm and wet, which is more common than you'd think. If it's really chucking and you have a long walk to school you're going to need waterproof trousers as well, however long a coat you buy.

Babies are still under duvets here... Crazy!

SmethwickBelle · 16/07/2011 22:06

I got a similar one from nordic kids for DS2 (www.nordickids.co.uk) and it was ALL the cute. seriously cute. The ties weren't remotely a choking hazard, the ties were only about four inches a piece.

pics on my profile, only last year in Sunny Stevenage, very much in the UK
